Chapter Nine

Beep... beep.... beep...

Slowly Monique opened her eyes.  The world around her looked blurry.  The girl quickly closed her eyes again.  She had a very strange dream.  She had dreamt that she was a bodyguard for two twin princes and got hurt trying to protect them from Jasper Helmholtz... wait, Jasper?

Why was he in her dream?  Was it even a dream?  Brown eyes flew open, trying to see through the blurriness.  The girl struggled to get up, but a strong hand held her down.

"Rest Monii." A voice said to her.  It sounded fuzzy in Monique's ears as she tried to figure out who it was, that was talking to her.  Turning her head around, a pair of blurry green eyes came into her view as Monique blinked.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Two other pairs of green eyes floated into her view too.  Odd, was she seeing triple?

"Monii, do you recognize who I am?" The same voice asked softly.  The blurry faces cleared up and Roger, Percy as well as Rion, came into view.  Monique gave them a feeble smile.

"Hello, Raw." She croaked, "You too Percy and Rion."

Roger sighed in relief.  "Thank goodness.  Monii, you gave us all a scare.  You have been asleep for three days."  He pushed a strand of hair away from the girl's face. "But for a head injury, that is actually quite fast.  It should take at least up to a week or so."

Monique's face twisted in horror as she stared at the group in front of her.  She didn't hear a word that Roger had said, besides the part that she had been out for three days.  "Three days?" She asked, her voice cracking in panic, "I was out for three days?  What in the world happened?  Where's Taylor and my dad?"  She tried to get up from the bed, but was forced down again, this time by Rion.

"Monii, it's alright.  Everything is okay.  Yes, you were out for three days.  But like Roger said, it's normal." The boy said softly, "Don't panic or move.  Doctor's orders."  His green eyes filled with warmth as well as pity.  He knew that being stuck in bed for three days was not at all fun.

"But, what happened?" Monique inquired, as she slumped back into bed, defeated.  "I-I don't think I remember anything besides fighting with Jasper in the training room, then getting hit in the head."  She racked her head for more information.

Roger shared a look with Percy and Rion, before turning back to Monique.  The three of them had agreed not to talk about this until specifically asked to.  "Well, Monii, Helmholtz cracked your skull with that blow to the head.  You might have not felt it, but I guess the way you fell, caused it to be more server than necessary.  You were lucky that it didn't shatter, or you wouldn't be sitting here.  But don't worry, you're back to normal.  Doc said that your skull is healing wonderfully.  Taylor and your dad was here a few minutes ago, but had to go back to work."

Letting the infromation soak into her brain, the girl nodded her head.  "What happened to Jasper?" Monique then asked quietly, "Let me be more specific... was he punished?"  Dread filled the girl's heart as she waited for the answer.  She knew that it was a crime to attack a fellow agent as well as to disengage all the cameras.  But she knew that Jasper wasn't right in the head when he did it.  He had to be...

"Helmholtz..." Roger said slowly, "He... he has been suspended for a few days.  He admitted to wanting to challenge you to the fight, but hadn't wanted to hurt you at all."  The boy then made a face as he continued, "While saying all of this, Helmholtz looked genuinely apologetic, so Director Turnkey gave him the full benefit of the doubt."
