Chapter Twenty-Two

Secret #22: I have a feeling that we all have been too relaxed with our guarding of the twins.  These types of things shouldn't have happened.  We ought to be glad that these incidents were just minor stuff.  What would have happened if they weren't…I'm not so keen in finding out for myself.  Security, as well as surveillance, needs to be kicked up a few notches; we can't let them happen anymore.

--

Days past and lucky for Monique and Roger, nothing major happened to anyone.  However, the two of them became increasingly paranoid and jumped almost at every single tiny noise that they heard.  This small occurrence caused both of the young adults to have trouble sleeping every night.

It was also becoming increasingly hard to keep the letter that Monique had received a secret for Taylor kept on asking about it at random times, trying to see if she could get some answers out of them if they were least expecting it.

Then most unfortunately, Monique's nerves quickly broke down one day when she received another mysterious yet very threatening letter.  This time she was alone when she opened it, and that was probably the worst mistake she might have made in a long time.

As Monique began to pull out the letter, the letter looked completely normal.  But then she started to see splotches of red and when she completely pulled the letter out from the envelope she nearly screamed at the bloodied message.

SOMEONE HAS DIED TRYING TO STOP THIS LETTER FROM GETTING TO YOU.
STOP TRYING TO PROTECT THE PRINCES…

BEWARE,

YOU ARE NEXT, CHANG!

Dropping the letter on the ground, the young woman curled up into a ball in the middle of the living room and began sobbing in fear and desperation.  She wanted terribly to tell someone about this incident, yet she didn't know how or if she could even talk about it.

After what seemed like forever in the same position on the ground, Monique slowly drifted off into a fitful sleep.  As she slept, she didn't even realize that she had unconsciously grabbed the letter and held it tightly to her chest.

--

Later that night around 2 am, after a most disturbing nightmare, Monique woke up with a bloodcurdling scream.  She thrashed about in her bed, delirious with fear and hallucinations of people being killed.

Taylor jerked awake almost at once by her roommate scream and tore across the room to try and comfort her, while trying to dodge the flying arms and legs.  Rion, who was in the room closest to her, were the first of the boys to stumble out of bed at the sound of a scream, with Percy right behind him.

Hurrying, both of the twins blindly burst into the room and frantically looked about the dark room.  Clicking on the light, they saw Taylor kneeling by Monique's side, desperately trying to calm the young woman down.

Before anyone could say anything, Roger came rocketing into the room, as well.  Stopping and surveying the situation in front of him, he realized that he must have pushed it too far and became increasingly even guiltier than before.

It was at this time; Monique finally came out of her delirious moment.  Looking about the room and seeing all of her friend's horrified and pained looks, the young woman broke down and began crying.
