Song to the side

When peering my eyes open I stood up cautiously from the bed to see the room is empty; I rose an eyebrow starting to hear blood curling screams outside of the room wanting to get back to work. I need to get my mind set or I'll loose it; I know I will loose it again if I don't keep focus, but it will be the only way to think straight.
I know I am this explosive man that doesn't have the right mind set and has a difficult time of trying to mentally contain myself; without giving a beat out that I'm a hopeless man, I pull myself off of the bed grabbing my uniform and putting it back on.
The roughness of the clothing that reeks a mixture of blood and dirt reminded me the first time I arrived to these ground made walls; I can recall the blackening of the clouds that towered over the few soldiers that were in the vehicle with me, the young mans mortified distant glare should have given me sign to leave, but I wanting to become a 'Man' made me desperate to live up to those illusion expectations.
Connor and Walker were both right about losing everyone they have came to care for in this war, and I couldn't blame them for being the way they are if I turned out to be this person I don't recognized anymore. If I was to be given a mirror I would not recognized that is reflecting and will refuse to live up to anyone's expectations anymore; I turned into a man that is on the verge of forcefully falling, I don't know what to do to prevent any further damage.
Once I finished I grabbed my rifle and handgun placing them into their holders and tucking my dagger into the back my pocket that kept it stable from falling out; stepping outside the havoc of the blood curling were only the start as I saw soldiers laying lifelessly without limbs and screaming for help or laying there to die. I ran over to a man that was holding on to his handless arm that he clung inside of his jacket.
I leaned him standing against the dirt wall, "Stay here." I yelled over to him to when searching small crates for bandages; finally finding a few left behind, I was about to run over until a explosiveness caused me to hit the ground a few feet from the man. My ears bagun to rung that silenced the yellings and gun fire that has suffocated every corner, I crawled my way up as I stumbled my way to the man; only to find him laying on the ground with his eyes open and blood pooling around him.
I went to the next man helping the one's that were bringing the injured to a more secured area where we saw men either burned or probably dying, the scene was bloody and smelled of pure burnt flesh.
One after another we brought more men, but soon we had to put most of them to the side where the they slept next to the dead; we didn't know what to do with some of them and had stick them against the ends of the dirt wall until the firing calmed down, but merely that didn't work because it continued for hours.
We kept firing back despite the lack rations of food we were starting to face and how the cold nights were beginning to get harsher; we tried to fight back until air flight finally went and helped us with what they had left.
Walker and I used our rifles to shoot the men that will try to climb out of the trenches, "Wrong day to be taking a stroll, assholes." Walker mutters to himself as he delivers a head shot successfully laughing lowly at his cocky words. I delivered the same to a few others; until it was are time to change shifts, the shots went on and on leaving most of us to now think of it as a new nursery ryme that rung beautifully in our ears.
Some men from the base came by after the shooting calmed down a few days after and took almost ten or twelve men that was left of them; we kept getting word that the enemies were planning to use gasses against us and since it happended in another trench they gave us each our own gas mask and strictly told us if we loose or break them, we will die a very agonizing death.
It ran chills down my spine to think how much pain can we ednure with these gasses or the injuries we were sometimes forced to surpassed on; I went to go eat some of the more juicy soup and a small portion bread we all had because of those danm mices getting to the food.
Sebastian didn't come to sit in our usual spot and infact I avoided him every chance I got; I didn't want to hear his sorry excuses for hiding those fucking letters from me, I wanted the news to be false, but everytime I read them it made more sense as to why he wouldn't tell me more about his family and why I haven't received letters from Nurse.
Lifting up the end of the coffin while another soldier lifted the other side we loaded the wooden coffin inside of the truck; wiping the dust off my hands, I turned around to see Sebastian walking over while he has his chit-chat with Connor.
Connor sighs shaking his head and gesturing the cord of his head towards the direction I stood; Sebastian glances over with guilt shitting on him, I grabbed my rifle the rested against a few crates and walked away before Sebastian could arrive.
I wasn't ready to forgive-and-forget, this relationship we created for one another was beginning to become toxic for the both us and it won't be healthy if we allow us to continue this dysfunctional relationship; for the first time I'm doing the protecting and the right strategic move.
Walking past the soldiers it went silent again of how the thoughts of the Nurse came flooding in and how much I wished I was able to see her one more time with the son she passionately talked about with so much joy, and the smiles she contained for any soldier that walked through the infirmary, but now that she is gone I won't have the guts to meet her son; fearing that I may bring some type of disappointment to him than happiness.
Walker and I met at are usual post to take are shift to rifle them, I laid on the ground cocking my gun and then getting in a ready position as I looked over at Walker and punched his shoulder lightly for good luck.
Taking in a deep breathe I tried to imagine how this woman is and how long they have been in-engaged to one another and if they're happy in their relationship; the thought of this woman who is able to be public with him made me review, Sebastian and I can't be together due to the fact that even Connor and Walker have problems because of keeping their relationship a secret for many years.
The talks that Walker and I have had made me realize by letting him go will be a much wiser choice then to bother trying this out, and I don't want Sebastian to wound up hurt even though I am pissed at the fact he has been lying to me the entire time.
"When we go home, I want you to visit. My pa-pa has promised me if I come back from the war to introduce the friends in these fuckin' trenches he will let us drink one of his thirty year old wine bottles." Walker states happily at the thought of drinking the wine and I chuckled amusingly of how the taste may be, if we ever do make it home.
"A piece of bread who could do the most headshots." Walker glances at me with a daring grin as I scoff shaking his hand on it, going to give this dare a try and see who could do the most headshots. We cocked are guns getting them ready and sensing the heat of the competition taking over us; I was going to give it all I have to win the bet since I wanted that piece of bread, other than the few rations of food we have left due because of the progression of the war and how our enemies are close to loosing.
Lifting the scope to my view I smirked at of the thought of winning and the food I will gain, "Be prepared to lose Walker." I tell him in a cocky tone hearing him scoff at the sound of my statement, shaking his head and lifting his own gun to his view as well.
The first person that peaked their head out made me grin as my finger moved to the trigger as if I was caressing a lover's hand for my own benefit, the man about to duck as I pressed o the trigger feeling the rifle kicking against my shoulder then the bullet successfully entering the mans head beautifully, watching him fall back.
Cocking my gun again I can feel the rising of achievement spreading across my lips when I glanced at Walker with a cocky smirk, "Show off." He flips me off then quickly goes back to scoping with his rifle as I did the same too. We both continued this bet until are shift was over and that was when we counted how many we headshot, and the numbers were fantastically also surprisingly high enough to say who won the bet.
