SIX
I stood in front of the big dust patch the RoadHouse chose to call its parking lot, full as sunset tried to shine over the top of the wooden building. It was one storey tall, and acted as a mini motel and gas station.
The large neon letters flickered on and off on the roof, casting eerie yellow and orange glows over the already darkening landscape.
Standing on the long wooden porch I opened the screen door, hesitating on the thick wooden one. Voices argued inside, but not the normal verbal abuse of Hunters- something dark and...satanic.
'Why'd you bring her here?' One voice yelled angrily. 'It'll ruin the whole thing.'
'I'm right here you know.' I recognised Trix's voice, cracked but still as sarcastic and dry as always. 'But if you let me go, I'm sure none of this would be a problem.'
'Shut up.' There was a bang and a strangled cry.
'You sadistic son of a bitch.' I heard her spit.
'That's the idea.' The male's voice laugher cruelly, and it was echoed loudly.
Placing my bag down carefully, I stepped off the porch and backed out of the window's line of sight.
'I thought you couldn't hurt me.' I heard Trix groan as I slunk around the side. Stopping by another window, I ducked underneath it, all the while checking the parking lot for her Pontiac firebird.
'I made that deal with the Crossroads Demon- and I know you lot know.'
'Crossroads Demon?' I breathed. No-one made deals with them- not unless they were willing to die for something, and die soon.
'Part of the deal...on his behalf, anyway, was that you can't hurt me.' She groaned afterwards, and I heard a crack.
There was more laughter, doubled that seemed to make the air shake.
'No, no, sweetheart, you got it all wrong.' The first male voice said. 'See, none of us...supernatural creatures can't kill you. We can hurt you as much as we want- as long as we keep you on the brink of death.'
'Oh.' She muttered sarcastically. 'Well as long as I've got that all cleared up, I feel so much better.'
'We can torture you as much as we want,' There was a female's voice, and I recognised it from somewhere. 'As long as you don't die, of course.'
'Well you lot sure do make good reassuring speeches. Just don't quit your day job.' Trix said.
There was a crack, and she hissed.
'You talk too much.' The female voice spat.
'Uh...' Trix moaned and spat blood. 'You know,' She croaked. 'My brother's coming for me. And as soon as he gets me out of here, we're gonna waste all of you.'
The girl laughed, and I realised who it was.
'Ruby?' I cried, jumping up.
All the creatures turned to face me- demons and vampires alike.
'I told you he was coming.' Trix said, singing patronisingly.
'Get him!' Ruby roared.
****************************************************
'Nice to see you again, Dexter.' I smiled.
'Shut up, Trixie.' He muttered, tied behind me.
We were both tied to wooden chairs in the middle of the bar- all the other tables, chairs and pinball machines had been pushed against the walls. All the demons and vamps had disappeared somewhere deeper into the RoadHouse.
Blood still trickled from my nose, there was a cut along my face and I know I was covered in blood still.
There was a cut above Dexter's temple from where Ruby had hit him.
'Well, uh, at least you can't blame me for Ruby anymore.' I tried to smile but it was too bloody to be reassuring.
Dexter shook his head and sniffed.
'Look man, I'm sorry.' I tried to see him but couldn't turn my head that far. 'I know how much Ruby meant to you-'
'Do you? Do you really, Bellatrix?' He snapped. 'Because I don't think you knew squat. I mean, have you ever really been in love with someone?'
'Aw, don't get into all that love crap with me, Dex, I feel sick enough already.' I shook my head.
'All you do is go around with your head held high, thinking your better than everyone and that you can do whatever the hell you want, to who ever the hell you want.'
'Yeah, so? What's that got to do with anything?' I snapped.
'So you don't know anything about people.' He shook his head. 'I'd be surprised if you had any emotion besides anger and sarcasm.'
'I thought I was the girl in our brother-sister relationship.' I muttered.
Dexter shook his head. 'Leave me alone, Trixie.'
I sighed. 'T-thanks for coming to help me.'
'What?'
'You came here to help me, right? Sure it didn't work out, but still.' I asked.
'No...you called me and told me to come here two nights ago.' He said.
'No, I was on the phone with Ever, and she told me to come here. So I did- I was on my way back to try and convince you again to come with me. See all the glorious things you're missing?' I laughed quietly.
'Oh yeah.' He said sarcastically. 'You're really living the dream here, Trix.'
'Yep.' I sighed. 'You know it.'
Dexter sighed. 'So...where's mum?'
'I...I don't know.' I whispered, clenching my jaw. 'I guess she's deeper inside.'
We grew up here, in the almost complete middle of nowhere, until I was eight and Dexter was four. Mum stayed- Dad brought us back every year or so when we were hiding from a spirit or demon or something.
The door hiding the kitchen opened, and we shut up.
'Hey Ruby.' I smiled. 'You wouldn't happen to have a friend of mine in there, would you? Working with some kind of Scarecrow thing?'
She smiled evilly, her eyes going black.
'So you didn't die.' I breathed.
'Ruby? Trixie? What's going on?' Dexter pulled against his ropes, trying to see.
'No, I haven't.' She smiled. 'But I missed you guys. And I love this body. It's all grown up and pretty.' She swung her arms around.
'Who are you?' I asked.
'I'm Ruby.' She smiled.
'Don't play dumb with me, you evil son of a-'
'Trix! Leave Ruby alone!' Dexter yelled.
'She's not Ruby, Dexter.' I snapped.
'Then who is she?' He spat back.
'I'm Gloria.' She smiled. 'And I'm gonna put your intestines on a stick.'
