Chapter Thirty-Six:

I watched the bodies burn, biting my lip so hard it bled.

'This wasn't meant to happen.' I choked out, spitting blood.

Dexter looked down at me, red ringing his eyes. 'What?'

'This wasn't meant to happen.' I repeated, keeping my eyes focused on the licking flames. 'They were still protected- how did this happen?' I turned to him now, staring up. 'How did they die? Why?'

'I-I don't know...' Dexter stammered.

'Well you should!' I yelled, and stormed off, hiding the tears that streamed down my face.

'Trix, neither of us could-'

'Yes we could!' I yelled, turning back. 'I could've! If I hadn't gone off with you and Johnny...I should've stayed with dad...they wouldn't have died!'

'You can't blame yourself for this, or me.' He said quietly.

'Watch me.' I spat and continued off.

He didn't follow me after that.

'This is Bellatrix. Leave a message.'

'Hey Trix, it's Dexter.'

Even though hearing him sent a shock of life through my body, I didn't react.

'I know you're there, but you won't answer. You shouldn't beat yourself up over what happened- you don't have long enough left. Don't try to find them by yourself- it's too much for one person. We should do it together. Anyway, call me when you get this.'

Two days later, I got an almost identical call from Johnny. If I wasn't busy stitching myself up, I probably would've answered.

'Bells, it's Johnny. Dexter told me how long you've been gone for- you've only got three weeks left, you've got to come back to us. Dana's gone- we need you back. You don't have long enough left to go hunting down that demon and the doctor. Just come back to us. Call me when you get this.'

I barely looked up from the long metal strip I was pulling out of my stomach. Cutting it off, I started sewing up the streaming wound, barely caring as I saw the sickly green and yellow trail that had spread up my veins.

Three days later, when I had just over two weeks, Dexter called again, 'Trix, it's me. I've found them.'

I finished snapping the vampire's neck, barely feeling the freezing cold of its blood splattering over my face.

I would hunt those bastards down, 'coz it's the last thing I'd ever do.

I pulled to a rough, dusty stop in front of the RoadHouse, kicking up a mountain-load of dirt and pebbles as the sun struggled to rise over its massive one storey.

Dexter and Johnny stood before the doorway on the porch, and as I came up they both hugged me.

After a couple seconds, I pushed Dexter away. 'What'd you find?' I asked without emotion.

They shared a look, then Dexter cleared his throat as Johnny limped off.

'Uh, Trixie...you're still sure you want to find them? I mean, you only have what, less than four weeks left?'He asked.

'Two.' I said, still void of emotion. 'And I don't care. This is the last thing I WANT to do.'

He sighed, giving me a look that was just off pity, and continued, 'OK. I do know where they are, and what they're doing next.'

'Then let's go.' I started walking to my car, but he caught my arm and pulled me back. 'What?' I snapped.

'We don't have to go JUST yet.' Dexter said, obviously stalling.

'I have two weeks before the Hell Hounds drag me to Hell.' I didn't mention the fact that a weird poison was spreading through my body and I was starting to trip out a bit. 'So yeah, we do. Hurry up or I'll go without you.'

'But you don't know where they...are.' He winced, and just as I turned around I saw the flash of the plank of wood swinging for my head. As I crumpled to the ground, I heard Dexter's fading voice; 'Sorry Trixie. It was the only way you would come.'

The world went dark as I heard Scarlett apologise too.

No-one seems to be reading my stuff as much, so i mite delete my account or something.
