Chapter Twenty-Nine:

Scarlett swallowed hard. 'What...what did you do to that thing?'

I looked back at her, clinging to my waist as we continued down the creepy halls.

'I shot it.' I stated simply.

'Yeah, but...but with what? What was it?'

'Scar, I'm not going to lie to you.'

'I've never had a nickname before.' She giggled, but I took it as shock, or whatever it was normal humans had when thrown up against ghosts.

'That thing back there? It was a ghost, tied down here probably because of something horrible that happened to its body, and probably still is. I shot it with a salt gun- and no, not salt you get out of salt shakers from the supermarket.'

'A...a ghost?' She said, though she didn't sound as sceptical as most people do.

I nodded. 'Uh huh.'

'And...and is that what has Curtis and your brother?'

'Maybe.' I shrugged. 'So, uh, are you gonna let me go anytime soon?'

'No.'

'OK.'

April 2001

I sighed as the girl screamed, watching her boyfriend getting his entrails ripped out through his throat.

The cinema was almost completely empty, and still Sam clung to my arm in fear.

I had taken Dexter to see the same movie two days ago, and it hadn't effected either of us in anyway, except for giving my boring meter a new number.

Yet Sam was scared out of his wits, while I was analysing each fight scene.

'So,' I whispered, and after a second he tore his eyes away from the screen, 'Uh, are you gonna let go of me anytime soon?' And grow a pair?

'No.'

'OK.'

September 2013

I'd SO rather be in a horror movie right now. Which, I might be. I wouldn't know, being the victim and all that.

Sighing, I looked out one of the windows- the sun was just starting to rise, and I was only on the third floor.

Yawning, I detached a sleeping Scarlett from my waist and put her against the wall, collapsing beside her. Already I had ran into four other ghosts, all who had seemed demented but when they got close when I had to reload, didn't seem so...evil.

They still got a faceful of salt, but still.

I yawned and immediately fell asleep- screw having lookouts.

When I woke the sun was starting to fade again, and looking around, Scarlett was gone.

There must've been something wrong with me.

Standing and stretching as I walked, I continued down the hall, making sure I still had all my guns and stuff. I stopped at the inside of my jacket- the salt gun was gone.

'Son of a bitch.' I muttered.

Groaning, Dexter tried to move off the hard wooden chair, but was bound by his wrists and ankles.

Freezing water was suddenly thrown into his face and he spluttered as two hazy figures came into view.

One was shorter than the other, with red hair and brown piercing eyes. She smiled wickedly and bent down to his level, tightening the rope.

'You're sure it's secure?' She barked over her shoulder.

Then the other figure came into view, and Dexter immediately recoiled- it was a human, no question, but it was covered in scars and various parts jutted out and bulged sickeningly.

The Medicus nodded, smiling repulsively, showing various misshapen teeth that obvious weren't his.

'I'm sure.' His voice was like nails down a chalkboard, and Dexter winced. 'Everything's set- we just need the other one.'
