Chapter 1
━━━━━━━━━
"Why did you do this?" I screeched as Douglas pushed me against the tree. He wrapped the rope around and around until it ran out just behind me. He tied the two ends together just as he must have millions of times before. He had been preparing for this for quite some time. I could tell.
"I needed to make sure the one bionic kid who found out about my little plan, wouldn't be able to stop me when I finish the job." Douglas hissed. He walked around to face me with an evil smirk as he stood above me.
"Adam will find you. He and Leo aren't that far away." I tried. Douglas threw his head back with a laugh.
"You and I both know those two aren't leaving Disneyland for the next two weeks of their vacation. They won't find out about this until its too late." Douglas countered. I felt my face fall at my last attempt to have a comeback.
"Chase could come back. He could save the day. He always used to." I mumbled, barely loud enough for myself to hear it. Even I knew it wasn't true. That would never happen. Chase had run away practically the day he turned fifteen, which was now two years ago. We never did find out why he left. But there was always some part of me that hoped he would come back. Even though we all knew he never would.
"Bree, Chase has given up on you. That means, you need to give up on him. It's how things work, princess. You were Donny's last hope. But now, you'll be dead before he will." Douglas scoffed.
"And how exactly do you plan, I die? Are you going to shoot me, or something?" I taunted. Douglas laughed.
"No, I'm not going to shoot you. I'm going to let you die here. You know, without food or water, you probably won't-"
"I get it." I interrupted. He shook his head before he walked back to his black sports car. The windows had been tinted and there were no license plates. There would be no way I could trace him. He must have made the car himself. He slipped inside and slammed the car door shut before speeding off. I sighed and leaned my head back against the tree. Wishing I was anywhere but here. There was no way to get out, though. I was literally in the middle of nowhere.
Douglas had driven with me, tied up, in the backseat for hours, if not longer. Now, all I could see for miles was sand and dull green trees.
He had taken my phone, and my bionics. I was nothing without my bionics. I could never get to Mr. Davenport alive. If I ever get off of this tree. I rolled my eyes at how cliche this really was. He had taken me to the middle of nowhere. He had made sure I was completely useless. And now, here I was, by myself, with no one to help.
I had to accept only one fact. There was no one to help me, or Mr. Davenport. Adam and Leo had left, just yesterday, on Adam's graduation trip. They were going to be gone for two weeks, just as Douglas had said. I wished I would have tagged along. I was graduated now, as well. Adam had been held back another year, so we had graduated together this year.
Then, Chase had been gone for so long, I don't even know if he looks the same. There was also Davenport's life on the line. I was the only one with even a small chance of saving him, and I couldn't even get out of these stupid ropes.
This would be so much easier if Douglas had just tied the rope around my body. But no, he had to tie my hands around the tree, as well.
I pulled a bit, trying to get loose, only to feel the burning of the ropes against my skin.
