Chapter 9

━━━━━━━━━

"Because I'm your brother. I'm Chase Davenport." He mumbled as he glanced back down to the ground. I felt my heart flutter out of my chest as I heard those words. It was Chase. It was him all along. I had always known we would meet again.

"Chase?" I whispered as I felt myself fall slightly back to the ground. He nodded slowly, finally letting his gaze fall back to mine. He had a small tear falling from his eye just as I had. I felt like the world had finally given me the last piece to my puzzle. Chase was what had been missing this whole time. And I had known it all along.

"That's my name." He mumbled with a teasing smile. I laughed as I reached for his hand, not able to remember a time when I was more happy. He smiled slightly as I wrapped my hand around his.

"Chase." I whispered as I leaned over to him, attempting to wrap my arms around him before he pulled away.

"Bree." He replied, my name practically venom in his mouth. I felt all thoughts of the two of us happy fly away as the one memory rested in my mind. The thought of my last words to him, his last words to me. He hated me still. He always would.

"Chase, please. I was mad. I never thought you would feel the same way I did. I was terrified of how I felt for you. You have to forgive me. My life has been a mess without you." I cried as I clutched his hand tightly in mine. The tears flew out of my eyes as I kept my gaze on our hands. I could hear Chase snuffling as well, thinking of the night he left for what could only be described as a lifetime to me.

"And you think my life hasn't been a mess without you? Every minute of every day, you are all I think about. When I saw Douglas tying you to that tree, my heart stopped dead in my chest. I couldn't believe for even a minute that somehow, someway, I was able to find you again. That I had a second chance to-"

"You never needed a second chance, Chase. I fell in love with you. It broke me apart when I found out you had left because of what I said." I interrupted. He nodded slowly, bringing my hand closer to him as he kissed it gently, trying to tell me that it would all be okay.

"I love you." Chase whispered as he glanced up to me, catching my sight as we each looked deep into each others eyes. I felt myself attempting to catch my breath. Chase had always been able to steal the air from my lungs. I was in a perpetual state of not breathing every time I was near him.

"I love you too." I whispered before I swiped my hand from his grasp, jumping back onto his lap as I threw my arms around his neck. He laughed quietly as he let his arms snake around my waist, pulling me as close as I could be to him. I buried my head in the crook of his neck as he held me. Words couldn't describe how good it felt to be back in his arms. To realize that he had been the one I had been with these past few days. That no matter what, he was always the one I was meant to be with. I had thought I had fallen for Chip, when in all reality, I had fallen for Chase all over again. He smiled into my shoulder as he laid us down slowly. I sighed as I let my head fall to rest on his shoulder, the two of us still entangled in each others grasps. I smiled into his chest as he took in deep, constant breaths. He took one hand away from my waist and quickly connected it to one of mine, holding it as if he was holding into life.

"Never leave me." I whispered. I couldn't bare it if he disappeared from my life again. It had been torture since he had left. Two years without him that I could never get back, no matter how hard we tried. How hard I tried.
