Chapter 20

Three Months Later

━━━━━━━━━

I set the box down on the edge of the counter as I glanced around the place. It would only take a few seconds to set the place up if Chase let me use my bionics. But of course, he wanted to do it the old fashion way, despite what advantages we each poses. I would be able to set up the place in seconds if it was up to me. I knew Chase liked the advantages of the so called normal life though. It made sense, so I wasn't going to fight him on it. I smiled as I walked around the small place. We had a two bedroom with a small bathroom next to the second room.

I stopped at what would soon be Chase and I's bedroom. To Davenport's knowledge, we had gotten a two bedroom simply because of his wishes for us to still keep separate rooms. Chase had turned eighteen a month ago though, we were both adults now. We could make executive decisions just as he could. We also no longer needed our capsules. Chase, Adam, and I had outgrown them within the last couple of months. That, and Chase had been away from his capsule for so long, he no longer needed his. He had sort of trained me to live without it. It didn't take that long to get used to sleeping in an actual bed given the fact that I slept better that way. Standing up while sleeping was a thing of the past to me.

Adam and Leo still lived with Davenport and Tasha since Leo was going into his senior year of high school. Chase had gotten a fake diploma from Mission Creek High made by Mr. Davenport since he missed out on high school. He was the smartest guy in the planet, he had no need to go to high school. It seemed silly to even consider sending him in with his qualifications. That, and he was old enough to be graduated or be going into his senior year by now. He wouldn't be there long enough.

I glanced around the corner as I heard the loud and obnoxious footsteps of Chip as he stepped through the threshold of our new apartment. I sighed as I ran to his side, taking the box from his grasp and setting it down next to the others in the corner of what would soon be the dining room. He rolled his eyes as he came to my side. He had no right to even be thinking of doing that.

"I'm fine now. My arm's been healed for a while." He teased as he held out his left arm for me to see. He let his fingers rest against the spot before pulling up his shirt sleeve slightly to get the full view for it. I know he wanted to seem like the strong, protective guy he had been over those days in the woods, but even I knew he wasn't allowed to lift anything for another month. I smiled and let my hand rest overtop of the wound that stood as a constant reminder of what I had done so long ago. I let my fingers rub slightly over the small bump that was still slightly heeling on his left arm. The only good thing that had come of this incident, was the fact that Chase often had to go without a shirt when we went on doctor visits. Davenport had always let me take him because he was busy. I had simply spared both him and Chase of the knowledge of my staring in the corner. I knew Chase had probably seen me in the process, though. My other hand rested firmly against his chest as his hands flew to my hips. I loved when he held me close. Especially since he had gotten the sling off and the gauze as well, he had even able to at least hug me once again.

"I was at the doctors when they told you that you couldn't lift anything for three months. You may think you're smart but you can't fool me when I was actually there." I reminded as he pulled me closer. He always assumed that he could pull something past me.

"Exactly, I can lift things now." Chase replied, thinking nothing was wrong. Or at least acted as though he was in the clear. I shook my head, knowing otherwise.
