Chapter 7

━━━━━━━━━

I groaned as I flipped over for the fourteenth time since we had decided to go to sleep. I couldn't sit here and pretend like I was fine. I would never be able to save Mr. Davenport like this. I had cut my leg bad. Really bad. Somehow I had been stupid enough to fall on a rock. If only I had my bionics. It would be fine. I would be fine. I wouldn't be sitting here, alone again, simply because Chip and I got into another fight.

"Here." Chip whispered as he pulled me closer. My leg sat in the edge of the lake, practically bleeding into the water. I felt myself wheezing from the pain. I had never been hurt this badly before. I had always had the doctorly experts of Mr. Davenport if I was ever injured this badly. I couldn't sit here. I couldn't let Chip attempt to comfort me as my leg was dying.

"No. I need to wrap it up somehow." I whispered, the sound of my voice slightly altered from all the crying. Chip shook his head before dropped my hand, walking over to the log that had placed me here in the first place. He leaned down and reached inside, pulling out a first aid kit that must have been hidden in there for years.

"Don't you trust me?" Chip whispered teasingly as he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me gently into his lap. I nodded slowly, knowing that I did trust him whole heartedly. I didn't feel like I trusted anyone more at the moment. He was saving my life right now.

"Yes." I squeaked as he pulled my leg out of the water and over onto his lap to examine the cut more closely. He frowned in concentration as he looked it over, figuring just what my injured leg needed to heal. He nodded to himself before turning back to the box. He opened it carefully before setting it down and pulling out a gauze. I sighed in relief as he unraveled the object, wrapping it tightly around my leg. I already felt better. Hopefully the bleeding would stop soon.

"There." Chip whispered as he attached the end of the gauze. I smiled, thankful that he did this for me. I wouldn't have thought to get a first aid kit and hide it out here. He laughed as I ran my hand over my now covered wound. He reached out and took my hand into his.

"Feel better?" He whispered as he let his chin rest on my shoulder. His left hand ran over my back, rubbing soothing circles into it as his right hand held my own hand. I nodded, letting my head fall to rest against his.

"I do." I breathed, already feeling more safe now that he was okay. I frowned as the memories of him under that spell came back to me. That couldn't have been a commando app.

"How did you get me out of that? I couldn't have come out of that on my own. I've never been able to before." Chip whispered as he played with the ends of my hair. I froze as he mentioned me. I couldn't tell him I kissed him. I knew he wouldn't remember when I did so. There was a part of me that had hoped he would remember, but knowing that Chase never remembered what happened when he was in commando mode, I figured that this would end the same. I couldn't tell him. He had prevented us from kissing earlier. He might be upset if I tell him the real reason.

"I just... Talked with you. I was talking about how we played twenty questions. I talked about school." I rambled as I played with our interwound hands. He nodded slowly, not seeming to believe me.

"There's something else, isn't there?" He asked, his voice slowly raising from a whisper. I felt my eyes close at the fact that he had caught me. I had never been a good lier. I never will be, either. That would be one skill that I never could acquire.
