Although the weather was still rather chilly for the day despite the sun being out, Newt found himself sweating profusely beneath his lighter robes. He was thrilled that Tegwen had readily agreed to the job and he was glad that she was happy to have him accompany. However, it all came with a price as she informed him that she had to tell her fathers about leaving and Newt had a strong feeling that the Gittins men were not going to be thrilled at the idea. He pulled at the collar of his shirt and wiped the beaded sweat from his forehead as he followed Tegwen back to her home.
"Did you grow all of that in the garden? With it being this cold?" He asked trying to occupy his mind with a different topic. Tegwen glanced over her shoulder at him and smiled with a nod of her head.
"I did. I've been working on developing this fertilizing, very similar to the self-fertilizing shrubs that we learned about in Herbology. "
"But those plants feed on flesh, do they not?" Newt answered, giving the plants an uneasy look, trying to figure out if they were all flesh-eating at the time.
Tegwen chuckled. "Yesh, those shrubs do, but the ones in the garden do not. It's a work in progress, don't worry, they're not all Freud's."
"Speaking of Freud," Newt glanced around to catch sight of Pickett, but saw neither of the two. "How have you been handling his feeding habits?"
"I haven't had to do much actually," Tegwen admitted. "He's been feeding himself."
"With the stray cats around here?" Newt questioned.
"No, he's been keeping the gardens free of the gnomes, though. I think he prefers them over the cats. He also likes lamb whenever Tad cooks it."
"Good to know."
As they approached the cottage, Newt's nerves kicked right back up again as he followed Tegwen inside the home. It was quite warm and the smells of the tea leaf variety made it smell amazing. Walking in, he wasn't too surprised to find both men standing near the front door, with expectant faces. They were waiting for Tegwen to say something force, but she only smiled at them and walked past in the direction of the kitchen. Newt followed her quickly as they eyed him.
Tegwen was just making herself a cup of tea casually ignoring everyone that was waiting on her word. William was the first to grow impatient as he pulled out a chair at the kitchen table and sat down facing his daughter.
"Tegwen, what is going on?" His tone was demanding, yet Newt could see that he was just worried about whatever the Ministry wanted with Tegwen.
She turned around with the steaming cup in hand and gave her father an innocent look. "What are you talking about?"
"Teg-"
"I'm only joking, Dad," she smiled at him. "Relax. Everything is fine."
"But he said the Ministry had business with you," William pointed at Newt. "Does it have to do with MACUSA or what happened back in New York? I thought that was all settled and done."
"It is, Dad, it has nothing to do with MACUSA. This was strictly with the Ministry and it's not a bad thing at all. If anything, it's the opportunity I was looking for so I could get back to work."
"Oh my Merlin!" Rhodes clapped his hands to the sides of his face. "She's leaving us!"
"Leaving?" William repeated, his eyes shooting daggers at Newt before looking back to Tegwen. "Why are you leaving?"
"I didn't say anything about leaving!" Tegwen told them.
"So you're not leaving?" Rhodes slowing lowered his hands from his face with a hopeful look.
