Tegwen didn't expect Newt to be so bold in making the first move. After he came at her with a strong kiss, her shocked reaction caused the man to quickly realize that he had come at her, maybe just a little too strong. But she certainly wasn't complaining in the least bit. Instead, as she felt him move away towards her, she kissed him back. That seemed to settle Newt's nerves to the point where he took control again.
His hands were rough, from all the time had spent working outdoors and handling creatures, but his touch was soft as he held the sides of her face. While the kiss had initially started off as forceful, Newt softened it with time as the two of them became comfortable with the idea of sharing an intimate kiss...or several.
For so long, Tegwen really didn't think that she was going to find anyone that would be willing to put up with her awkwardness and clumsy nature. After all, it was nearly a full time putting up with herself, she couldn't expect others to want to put up with him. However, coming across Newt again years later, turned out to be a blessing in disguise. At first, she was confused and angry, wondering if she had done something in the past for bad karma to catch up with her. She really did believe that she hated Newt as well as Leta Lestrange.
But the more time that the two spent in the company of each other, she realized that while Newt wasn't clumsy, he was certainly awkward. After all, she should have been the last person in Hogwarts that he should have been nervous to approach. Yet, for so long, he stopped himself from talking to her to ask even the simplest of questions, like what song she was humming through the corridors.
At the time, he was a sweet and awkward boy, who believed that people were annoyed by him. Leta had taken advantage of that, by showing him attention and taking an interest in what Newt enjoyed, she was able to manipulate Newt to her liking. He believed that she was the only person who liked him, so naturally he would do anything for the girl that he considered his only friend. Foolishly, he had taken the blame and Leta could care less, not bothering to come to his defense or stay in contact with him after his expulsion.
It was during their time in New York, watching him perform the mating dance for the erumpent, crying over his creatures as they were taken from him and how much he did for them on a daily basis, Tegwen learned that Newt probably had the biggest heart in the world. It was just the world that didn't really understand him and his ways.
Her hands gripped the front of his shirt gently to steady herself, as he pulled away from her. She did her best to keep her breath steady so she didn't sound winded, but in many ways, Newt's kiss had left her breathless.
When her eyes finally fluttered open to look up at him, she was met with his gaze. His eyes let her know that he was waiting for her to say something first. But rather than saying something right away, Tegwen just smiled at him. That seemed to be enough for him as he grinned back at her.
"You...you're...you're a really good kisser," she told him quietly as he leaned his forehead against hers. "Sorry, that was weird, wasn't it?
She heard him let out a small chuckle at her weird compliment before he held her tighter in his arms.
