I wake up in an unfamiliar room laying on my stomach. I try to sit up but an excruciating pain stops me and I lay back down.
"Don't try to move dear, the whip went deep." Gleneth, the healer, tells me. I feel her gently rub cream to my back and suddenly it comes back to me.
I remember Ryan coming to me and touching my body like no other man has. I remember going back to the pack as excited as can be just to find him with another women. I remember attacking her. And finally I remember my father only having the chance to whip me twice before being stopped by my brother's cries of pain.
I don't recall how I ended up in Glenth's house though. I do usually end up here after my father punishes me like this. No one else is there to help me, no one else cares what happens to the filth.
"Now, now. Stop with the negative thoughts girl. You weren't meant for this." Gleneth tells me. "Now up you get." She tells me, helping me up.
I'm confused by what she's telling me. How might I stand when I'm in so much pain.
"The pain is only in your head, you've been sleeping for a week." Gleneth tells me again. This time I sit up when she helps me. I take a look around the room I was staying in. "Come to the kitchen, I will make you food before you go home." She says before disappearing.
It takes me a minute to stand. She told me the pain is all in my head but with every step I take, I feel like falling back to the ground.
Gleneth's house is a one floor cottage in the middle of the forest. Much to my father's disappointment she did not want to stay in the pack house. She claims that when she goes into the pack house she can feel my father's demons all around. Her house is cluttered with the herbs and other supplies she uses hanging off the walls and on the tables. Her house smells like it sounds.
She's sitting in the kitchen and sets the place for me to sit. A plate of eggs are ready for me next to a cup of some herbal tea. I sit and begin to eat and drink the tea." She explains to me that the tea is helping me build my strength faster.
"Your mother would be disappointed in you." Gleneth says out of the blue.
"My mother has never said a word to me, how could she ever be disappointed in me?" I question.
"Not that one, that women is an empty shell of what she used to be," Gleneth says. I want to defend my mother, but I know that there is nothing I can say. Gleneth is right, my mother will never again be the Luna she once was. "The one who raised you."
I immediately know who she is referring to. The women who I called mom for the first three years of my life. She expected so much more of me, she raised me to be a strong woman. She would be disappointed with the woman in front of her today.
"You know her, my mother?" I ask Gleneth. No one has ever mentioned the woman who raised me. Since the day I was dropped off here, we never spoke of the witch who spoke to me.
"Her and I are good friends." Gleneth admits. "I was the one who brought you to her, I knew you were meant for more."
"Are you disappointed in me?" I ask, suddenly wanting to please the woman who saved my life.
"I think you don't realize your potential."
"What potential? I'm unwanted by my family, my pack, my mate." The healer stands up from her chair and reaches over the table to slap my across the head.
"You will discover this on your own. You have a pack to save."
Gleneth didn't speak to me much after and I'm stuck with my thoughts as I walk back to the house. How can I have all this potential, why was I the one to survive? How can I have all this power that people can tell me about but I can barely stand up to my mother?
When I walk into the pack house all eyes turn to me. I have to will myself to walk past the stares and upstairs to my brother's room, I need to figure out what happened. I reach his door before knocking twice and waiting for the okay to go in. The pack doctor is on my brother's side rubbing cream into his back like Gleneth had done to me.
"Isaac," I say with a sigh. He's lying on his stomach, his arms under his head. He is shirtless so the two whip marks are as clear as day. "I don't understand." I shake my head. The doctor finally turns to me with a look of disgust.
"You must have some idea, this is all your fault." He growls. "How did you manage to do this to your brother?"
"I had nothing to do with this." I tell the doctor calmly. "I was shackled up in silver and having my back whipped. How do you think I did this?" I challenge him.
"Don't speak that way to me girl. I will have your father lock you up for years."
I roll my eyes, ignoring the pack doctor before moving to my brother. He was awake but staying quiet.
"Isaac, I really wish I knew what happened. I wish I could explain this. I would never wish this pain on you." I sigh. I hold his hand in mine.
"What kind of future am I if I can't protect my sister?" is his response to me. He's lying in a bed with wounds because of me and yet he is still concerned with protecting me?
"Isaac, this wasn't your fault it was my own. I should have never attacked that she-wolf. I need to learn control better." I assure him.
"Lux you don't get it!" He yells, instantly flinching because the movement turned into pain. "You shouldn't have to control that wolf, she is an alpha. She shouldn't be kept down."
"You're the future alpha, Isaac. You know dad, he would never hand the pack over to me. I am nothing more than filth. This is your pack." I tell him. This is what my life has been planned for. No pack has ever heard of a female Alpha, in no way can I be the first.
"no Lux and you know that. I will never be as strong as you, you don't even realize how strong you are. I've fought against other future Alpha's Lux, none are nearly as strong as you. Dad is scared that you'll realize that." Isaac sighs, suddenly seeming a lot older than he says.
Before I could say anything back to my brother, the door bursts open and my father comes stomping in with his Beta behind him.
"Take her to the cells. I don't want to see her face." He says to his second in command. "You will no longer be able to hurt our future Alpha." He spits at me and I have to hold back a growl.
Listening to the command, the Beta walks over to me and chains my hands together with Silver and lifts me to my feet. I don't put up a fight, the more I fight the less I get. My father loves isolating me, for a pack based animal, being isolated is very emotional.
The Beta drags me to the building that my father has converted into a prison. The moment the door opens all I can smell is the dirty scent emitted from the uncleaned cells. These cells aren't made of bars, but four closed off walls. Isolation in every sense.
The Beta walks us further into the cells, passing by the rouges and traitors in this pack. Finally we reach a cell with the door open and the Beta throws me in there.
"I hope this teaches you a lesson, filth."
