My impression when Emmett brought me along on this trip was after a few days and then I would go back. But this morning, exactly two weeks since he took me here, Emmett told me to pack up all my things and be ready to leave. I did exactly that.
Last night we said goodbye to his siblings and Jax, he held himself tall but I knew he was upset about his only sister going back to school. I watched the last week as he trained with his younger brothers but also played around with them too.
"We're going to my Uncle's Pack." He tells me, no question about it. He grabs my bag from me and puts it into the car. He begins to drive, pulling onto the highway the opposite way of my own pack.
"Why?"
"Because he wants to train you to be the Alpha you are supposed to be. Train you the way your father should have." He explains. "I need to go back to my pack, they need to prepare for the war, Lux."
"I don't want innocent lives to be taken, Emmett" I tell him again because it's true.
He takes his eyes off the road for just a second to look at me in the eyes. "We've talked about this"
"I know, war means creation." I sigh.
The car falls silent and I know he has more to say, that I just have to accept it. What kind of Alpha am I if I can't even fight for what I want – that's what I keep telling myself? There isn't much to talk about with him as we continue to drive to his Uncle's pack. I know that he's trying to get through to me and just can't.
"Which pack is your Uncle from?" I ask, trying to make conversation on this painfully silent journey.
"Emmerson, he's the alpha." He tells me.
"Your mom's brother or your dad's? I ask him, curious about the status and maybe why that's Emmett is more powerful than he thinks.
"My mother." He smiles at me. "They're twins." We fall silent again and I can't help but think that there is more to Emmett's story that he doesn't even realize.
"Emmett is your mother the firstborn?" I throw out there. He swerves the car because he turns his head to me so quickly.
"Obviously not, Lux. My uncle is the Alpha not my mother." His tone is defensive like this question has been brought up before and he's tired of answering people.
"I'm sorry if I offended you. I just got to thinking that you're so much more than just a Beta. You hold yourself as so much more."
"My title comes from my father, not my mother. Lux both my parents were born to be a Beta – my father has beta blood and my mother the second born to the alpha line. It's clear that I would have slightly more power than your average beta." I nod at his answer, I guess it makes sense but I don't think it explains the whole story.
It's not much longer until we pull up to a large house with young wolves playing in a pool around the side of the house. The property is huge and green, forestry all around the house and a few other houses in walking distance from here. Two large men walk out of the house, which I am assuming is the pack house. Both men hold themselves with the power they have – the Alpha and the Beta. I can tell the one on the left is his uncle as he looks just like his mother but as a male.
As Emmett and I exit the car, he goes up to his uncle and gives him a big hug. Both men smiling at each other in reunion. He then shakes the beta's hand firmly.
"Lux this is my Uncle Isaiah and his Beta Payne"
"It's nice to meet you both." I bow my head in respect to the two in front of me.
