~**~
After a fight so large my father tends to leave me alone, away from everything to cool down. He doesn't care about me for the most part so ignoring me further isn't a problem.
Today was as different as the fight we had last night. Last night I found my voice, told my father what he didn't want to hear. I caused a rift in the usual. There is no more normal in this house.
Elick was in my room the moment the sun was up, the Alpha to scared to face me. "Pack a bag, you're leaving with your brother in two hours." He says nothing else, leaving my room like he wasn't even there.
I don't know where were going or even why I'm going. What do I pack? It's not like I own many nice clothes, I'm never in need of them. After going through all my drawers, I decide that none of this is acceptable for whatever they're sending me on.
I go into my closet and reach to the back where I have very few pieces of clothing. These are the things that were my mother's. It was a weird day when she dropped a box in my room without a word. It was my eighteenth birthday. I think it was that broken souls version of a gift.
I never really looked through it all but it seems now I'm going to need to.
I pull out four sun dresses and a few blouses, shoving them in a bag with jeans and leggings. The last dress was hidden in the box, still completely untouched. It was a really pretty blue sundress, the same colour as the eyes of me and my mother. I decide to put that dress on first, use it for the day.
Elick comes back in my room two hours later, exactly like he said. His hard eyes change once he sees the dress I'm in. The Beta does have a weak point and it has something to do with this dress.
"Yes?" I prompt him, hoping he'll explain why I'm going on an adventure with the brother who hates me.
"That was your mother's, wasn't it?" He asks and I nod. "She wore it the day of her mating ceremony to your father." There's a longing in his eyes when he speaks about the past. "You look just like her when she was in her twenties, so happy and full of life that wolf was."
Elick goes into his own world for a minute and I want to know where he went because I think it has something that I need to know.
"You're going to travel between packs and your brother is going to find his mate." He tells me. I scoff knowing why they're doing this. "You have a problem?"
"Does he think it'll remove the curse?" I laugh a humorless laugh. Elick looks away and I know I'm right. This is a sorry excuse of an attempt to remove the curse that has no reverse. "How long will we be out?" I ask
"Do you have other plans?" He raises an eyebrow, challenging me. "Not more than a couple weeks I'd say. Your brother will tell you when you're leaving."
It's not that I have other plans, but my heat is coming. Technically it shouldn't arrive for a couple of weeks, I'll be fine until we return. I go into my side drawer and grab the herbs Gleneth gave me to keep my heat at bay – a painful time she tries to keep me from since no one wants to connect themselves in such an intimate way with the filth.
