I've been staying in the Forts Pack for two weeks now. The Alpha granted me the stay once Rory explained that I needed a well-deserved break from the terrors of my pack. It's only been two weeks and I feel like a new person.
When Rory used to tell me about her brothers, she made it seem like they were males that never allowed females to train and fight, much like my father. But it was in fact the opposite. I would be woken up early every morning to train with the other females – the female warriors. There wasn't many of them but enough to be a mighty team. Rory is the only one who they're reluctant to allow train. Instead of training with the main group, she trains in private with her brother Ezra, he teaches her things that she can do while she is off at school.
"Lux, wake up!" I'm shaken by the small but mighty girl that we call Aurora.
"What if I tell you that I'm already awake?" I laugh and turn around.
"Oh good. Well how was your nap?" She asks.
"Wonderful." I respond, sitting up and stretching my arms from side to side.
"Your brother was supposed to visit our pack today." She tells me and suddenly I'm fully awake. She notices my shock and she laughs. "The Alpha wouldn't let him in. Told him he could wait until one of the celebrations like a normal wolf."
"Really?" I laugh with her. I can imagine the angered look on my brother's face when he hears that news.
"Ya, he was pissed." She chuckles. "I have a question for you?" She says.
One thing I've learned early on while staying with Aurora is that she changes ideas faster than any one I know. One minute were talking about why the world is round and the next were talking about her favourite flavour of ice cream. I don't think this is a bad thing, she's full of life and excitement. I wish I had that much in my life.
"Okay, go on." I tell her.
"How do you feel about going to a party tonight? It's going to be full of all kinds of wolves, it'll be fun." She cheers. "Perfect way to forget about Ryass."
"Ryass?" I ask.
"Yea, 'cause his name is Ryan and he is a monumental ass." She tells me proudly.
"Okay." I tell her.
"Wait really? It was that easy?" She asks. She's practically the only person I spend time with, did she think I would say no?
While I was growing up, I never attended parties thrown on by the younger wolves, I was never invited. I always wondered what it would be like. I was never wanted at those gatherings, all the wolves believed that I was filth – preconceived notions passed onto them by their parents. I was a joke. I dropped out of school when I was young, not that my father cared much. The only reason I know how to read and write or even know anything about history is because my brother would teach me. Whenever I could I would sneak into his room late at night and listen to him as he told me stories of how the packs were formed, history of the human world around us, history of our own family that I would have never known if it weren't for him. He was three years behind me which meant that I was learning three years behind where I should have been. I didn't learn to read until I was nine and didn't know how to write until a year later. Once I had the basics down, Isaac allowed me to take his books and read them while my father kept me in isolation. Years later, after I first shifted, I would run to the human town that was a few hours away and buy books at the used book store. I could never afford books in our pack at full price.
