Chapter 6
"Um, that was not the response that I was expecting." Daymen said.
"Well it's the only logical one." Draven said with his eyes cast down.
"And how exactly did you come to that conclusion? I just told you that she would make a wonderful luna, partner and wolf. Why would you not want that?"
"You also said that it would be very painful for her. I can't put her through that. That's not fair to her." He spoke quietly.
Daymen's chest swelled with pride as well as sadness for his son. "I don't think that's your decision to make for her. The pain won't be everlasting, just when it first happens."
"I don't know. I still don't think it's worth it to put her through the pain at all. How selfish would that be of me to cause her all of that pain, just to complete my soul, when her's is already full? I will just leave her alone and find a femwolf who has been rejected or lost her mate to take on as my Luna. I know that the bond won't be there, but I'm sure that we will eventually grow to love each other." Draven stood up. "Thanks for the talk dad. And thank you for looking into it for me. I'm going to head back to Tally now. We haven't finished getting everything set up in the apartment yet."
Daymen stood up as well. "Anytime Draven. That's what I'm here for. I just hope that you really think this over, before you stand by any decision that you make. Remember son, any decision that you make ultimately effects the pack in the long run. "
Draven nodded his head and turned to leave the office. His heart felt heavy and his broken soul felt shattered. He knew that he wanted to be with her, more than anything he wanted her by his side. But what kind of mate would he be if he intentionally put her through excruciating pain like that?
He was pulled out of his thoughts by a slight tug on the bottom of his pants. Looking down he saw Drexlin staring up at him, smiling, with drool running down his cheek. Smiling back at him he scooped him up and headed off for the kitchen.
He bounced the baby on his hip as he headed for the cookie jar. He took a chocolate chip cookie out and handed it to his nephew, "Here, you have four teeth now, you can eat this." He grabbed himself one and went off to look for his sister.
He walked into the living room to see her with her feet up the couch, one hand resting on her swollen belly, and snoring.
He shook his head and looked at the baby on his hip, "Looks like I'm not going back to town right now after all. It's you and me until dinner time. Let's go outside and let mommy sleep." Drexlin's smile never faltered as he leaned up to give his uncle a chocolate covered kiss.
Draven smiled and wiped his cheek, "Yeah, lets wash your face first. We need to wash away the evidence that I gave you a cookie."
Playing with the pup all afternoon made Draven's heart even heavier. He knew that he could still have kids with the woman the he decided to take on to be his partner, but they wouldn't be conceived from the bond of true mates. His soul was aching but he knew that, that was nothing compared to what his mate would feel if they were to be together.
"Shit Draven! I'm so sorry!" Ansleigh yelled, walking outside.
"What are you sorry for?" He asked her, rolling the blue ball across the yard, so that Drexlin could bring it back again. Draven couldn't help but to chuckle when he first thought of it like a game of fetch.
"I shouldn't have fallen asleep like that. What if you weren't here, there wouldn't have been anybody watching Drexlin. I don't even know how it happened. I set him in the floor to play and the next thing I know mom is waking me up for dinner. I'm really sorry and thank you so much brother."
"It's all good sis. Really. I know that you're tired. We've just been hanging out. He has been on a couple of wolf rides, we've wrestled around, ate some cookies and played with the ball. He's happy and it was a welcome distraction from life right now."
Ansleigh's face softened as she took her son from Draven. "Well I very much appreciate it and if you want to talk, I'm here. I'm going to get him washed up and then it's time to eat. Mom said that since you and Jesse are already here ya'll are staying to eat."
"Sounds good to me. I'm starved." He followed the two into the house and got himself cleaned up.
After dinner him and Jesse headed back to town. Draven was still just as confused as he was when they had gotten to his parent's house. He still didn't know if he was going to claim her. But now it wasn't because she wasn't a wolf, it was because she would turn into one.
