"Fuck you!" I yelled as my fist collided with the bloody girls eye. I continued to punch her and punch her and punch her, even if she didn't hit me back. All the kids in the background yelling fueled my adrenaline. All I saw was a red blur. I literally saw red.
Hands pulled at me, yanking me away. It was Mrs.Everdeen, the foster lady who was actually considering adopting me. Bet she quit now. I was tugged away form the poor girl and received a good look of my damage. She was bruised, and bleeding, and I'm pretty sure I saw her right eye starting to swell shut.
"That's why no one loves you,Bitch!" She shouted, a mouth full of blood leaking out her, well, mouth. Before I knew it, I kicked her in the mouth again. Now she was unconscious. I'm sure she's unconscious.
I didn't bother to fight her anymore. I walked at a brisk pace to match Charlotte's as we enter my room, She pushes me away in disgust and I sit on the bed, staring at her blankly.
"So what's your reason this time?" She asked me, pacing the room with her arms crossed over her face in frustration.I don't respond to her, "So now you can't hear me?"
"I don't know." I muttered
She stopped in front of me, leaning an ear forward. "Come again?"
"I DON'T know." I spoke louder, rolling my eyes at the end. I hate repeating myself, especially knowing the person heard me.
"Autumn, how do you not know why you would do something like that? The miniature scuffles, I can deal with, but these full blown fights...She has to go get her nose fixed and her mouth stitched! " A small chuckle escapes my mouth from her use of rhyming. "Is this funny to you?"
"You were rhyming. "
"That's it." She walks to the door and stands on the outside of it, looking at me with sympathetic eyes that are laced with fury. "I'm calling your social worker tomorrow. We can't keep you."She closed the door.
I laid on the bed, spreading my body out. The sun went down leaving a shadow to glow over my body. The shadow reflected off the wall, lighting one of my paintings on the wall. Curiosity seeped in my veins and I stood up, tentatively walking to the wall. Cautiously unpinning it from the wall, I see its a picture from a few months ago. It was of a lavish house hidden in the woods. The house has appeared in my dreams since I was eight years old. I'm seventeen now, so that's nine years of wondering. I don't know where it came from ; just that looking at it aches my heart and brings tears to the brim of my eyes.
Wiping my eyes and blinking away on-coming tears, I pull out my phone and dial a familiar number.
Within seconds Xavier's husky voice fills my ears and literally turns my frown the other way. "What's up?" He asked.
"Come and get me." I answered, getting out of the bed
. "I'm getting on my jacket now, so I need you down the block in five."
"Iight." I hung up the phone, tucking it deep into my pocket. After sliding on my black leather jacket, I climbed out my window and disappeared into the moonlight.
~
"I completely forgot your five minutes is twenty." I commented as I sat in the black Corolla S. The leather seats were warm against my frosted skin. I chose a bad day to wear shorts.
"Just because you were ready, doesn't mean I was." He looked at me with a smirk.
I leaned over the middle to kiss him and then said, "You take longer than me to get ready."
"Now that,I disagree with." He put the gear and drive and pulled off. "Where you wanna go?"
"Anywhere is fine. I need to clear my head."
"Sibling trouble?"
"Those...ughs...are not my siblings."
"Then what are they?"
"People around my age I was forced to live with." He laughed, making a turn off the highway into a deserted highway.
I could already hear the noise of all the partiers before I saw them. The noise made the five people sound like thirty, and the forest proved the best place for the sounds to echo. A stereo was turned on maximum in someone's car and I saw the beer bottles in people's hands already, along with the half-smoked blunts and cigarettes. I opened the door and stepped out. Xavier met me in front of the car and wrapped an arm around my waist, placing me protectively on his side. We walked towards the protective group of people, and upon recognition they greeted us. Greeted meaning handing each of us a beer out of the blue cooler filled with ice.
"Ugh,Shell, you know I don't drink beer." I reached down, putting it back in and extracting a Mike's Lemonade. Looking up,I was met with the green eyes of Shell. They were glossy, meaning she was high already. I also noticed her hair was different. It wasn't long and flowing anymore,it was in a bob. "You cut your hair?"
"Had too! Some bitch in my school cut it."
"What?" I asked, shocked.
"Her and her friends, but it's cool. I got them come Monday." She raised her shirt, revealing the black metal. "They fucked with the wrong one." I smiled at her before observing the scene.
I knew everyone here, which saddened me a little. It was the same group we were always around and to be honest, I was sick of the normality.
"What's wrong?" Xavier whispered in my ear. "You're frowning."
"Nothing." I took a long drink of the cooler. "Nothing at all." I paid more attention to him. He was talking to Mike- a tall, muscular guy- and smoking a cigarettes. Eagerly,I started to tap his cheek as he inhaled the smoke. He bent to my level, exhaling as I inhaled. I held it in as the atmosphere changed. My adrenaline started to build as my mind clouded. The forest appeared brighter, though it was near pitch black, and I knew it was time to exhale.
~
I walked around the back of the house, careful not to step on any twigs. It was hard to separate the ground from air, and I had to really focus to not fall on my face. I really should of stopped at three. Appearing at the back of my window I saw the light in my window was on. I swore, knowing for sure I turned that off before leaving out. Now I didn't care how much noise I made, certain I was already caught. First I threw my bag in the open window. Then I tossed one leg over, pulling myself in so I didn't fall on the hardwood. Looking up,I expected to see Mrs.Everdeen. No,I saw Sasha, another foster child.
"You are so lucky I covered for you." She whispered.
"No one asked you too." I took off my shoes, throwing them to the side of the room.
"Well,I did." She scoffed when I didn't respond.
"Did you want a 'Thank you'?" I took off my shirt and threw it in a pile by the closet. "I just said you didn't have too." I took off my shorts, now only in my bra and boy shorts.
"Ew,do you have to un-dress in front of me?"
"You're in my room, and don't you have the same parts? Get over it."
"Well,if you find a heart somewhere, Jessi is okay, but she lost a lot of blood. What were you fighting for anyway?"
"I don't know."
"So you were just fighting to fight?"
"Look," I stood in front of her, fists already starting to bawl. "I said I don't know, and I don't have to answer to you, so get out my room before you make me mad."
"You're obviously drunk." She stood up, slowly going to the door. "Oh,and she really did call the Social Worker. She's coming to get you tomorrow." She left.
I laid in my bed, under the sheets, not even caring about pajamas. I reached over to turn off the lamp. Staring at the ceiling, that empty feeling came back in my stomach. I crossed my arms over it, trying to fight it as a stomach ache, but I knew that wasn't what it was. I had been with Mrs.Everdeen and these people for a year, since I was sixteen. It's definitely been my longest home, and the fact they took in an almost-grown teen should earn some points, but I can't bring it in my sight to care. Everyone wants to say they care, but none of them do. How do you care about some you don't know? How do you care about someone who isn't even a part of you? How do you send away someone you care about?
