Milly's Wrath

{Part Fourteen}

We all changed back into our previous outfits arriving, and waited backstage. Jenny texted me to say she was here, which surprised me because I thought she was out of state right now. I wiped the make-up off my face, and threw back on my jacket as Jenny sauntered in the room. She was smiling, but I could see the sorrow in them as well.

"Hey, Guys!" She shouted. "Congratulations."

"Yo, we killed that!" Travis said, only adding to the energy of the room. "They didn't know what hit them!"

"Did you see Sarah face, though?" Toya asked. "Little lead Illusive was so pissed."

"I love the energy, Guys," Jenny spoke. "But I have something important to say." That caused everyone to suddenly get serious. They sat on the tables and in chairs, some stood, around Jenny as she spoke, "So, I wasn't here this past week, because I had to travel to Carolina for my Grandad's funeral...and after that..my parents decided we're staying there." My jaw dropped as I heard the news. It was her senior year, and not only that, but what would happen to the team? "So, I leave again tomorrow. And I decided who the new captain is." Her eyes landed on me. "Autumn, if you would accept it, I want to hand it over to you until the end of the year, and then you pass it to whoever you see fit."

I didn't speak. This was too much for me right now. First the win, then her moving, and now a place as captain? What is I messed up? What if we lost, or someone quit, or someone got hurt? How was I going to balance academics and the team? Come up with new routines on the daily and keep my grades up? What if I screwed this up like I seem to do everything else?

"Milly," I came back to reality and Jenny was right in front of me. "I know you can do this. You have such potential and...you're amazing at what you do. I mean, I left you for a week ,one week, with five routines over twenty people had to learn and you had them performing like champions. I mean, you learned the routines from a video I sent you! I know you're nervous, I was too, but I know you can do this."

I looked at the team. Some looked at me with excitement, and others envy. I could understand.I've been on this team four months, while some have been on it for four years, and I'm the captain over them. I would be mad too. But could I do it?

"Okay." I nodded my head. "Okay."

We left the school and ventured on our own. Rick was called into a meeting after lunch, so he left us to do our own thing. Nicole and I went to get our nails and toes done, something we did every week together. This time I got my nails with a blue underlay and pink sparkles on top to match my outfit for tonight. Going back in the house, I  showered and dressed in a pastel pink Mickey Mouse dress with stone washed skinny jeans, cut at the knee, and pink sheer flats. I braided my hair in a braid to the left and put on my black Pandora bracelet. I put my ID and Driver's License in my back pocket and took my keys off the dresser. After thanking Nicole for the day out, I told her I would be back later.

The game was packed by the time I got there. It was a little after halftime, so the players were already back on the court. I searched for an empty seat and saw Kimbrea waving to me from the front, right behind where the boys would be benched. Scooting past people, I received a lot of Congratulation, both on winning the competition and becoming Captain. I  told you news traveled fast in this school.

"Yo." i smiled as I sat in the seat next to her,crossing my legs. "What's the score looking like?"

"Not good." She responded.

I looked up at the screen to see we were behind ten points, and I was way off with my timing for the game. We were in the fourth quarter, with seven minutes left. I knew how much this game meant to them, because it was the Semi-Finals, meaning if they won they went to finals in a few weeks time. They were up against Proxy Vocational, which was known for its athletic potential. I mean, major players came form here: Derrick Rose, MJ, Noah...all of them. So this game was more for their pride than anything. And to see them losing...
