"Why?" he demanded, amusement clearly muddled in his blued eyes.
"I'm suffocating," I confessed, dropping my eyes to the floor in shame. As my eyes assessed the concrete squares patterning the floor, I heard his lazied footsteps approach my apprehensive figure.
"You're having a bad day," he shrugged in reply, causing me to narrow my eyes in annoyance.
"More like a bad year," I muttered under my breath, my words virulent.
"Exactly. You'll get over it," he told me, causing my eyes to flicker back up to his face. From the shortened distance between us, I could now see the gray tinting his brightened eyes.
"This," he continued, gesturing to his leather jacket, "won't be as easy to get rid of."
"What? A worn leather jacket?" I raised an eyebrow mockingly. "I want to change. I want to be unafraid of the world around me. I want to stop caring so damn much. But I can't do it myself."
"Okay," he conceded, a smirk forming on his lips.
"Okay?" I asked him with widened eyes. I hadn't expected my spiel to work this fast.
"I'll help make you bad."
