Chapter Eight

Raven POV

Days had passed since my date with Lucifer. And in those few days, we had been spending time together. He even called me his girlfriend a few times when we were interacting with others at Lux, which if I am being honest, I didn't mind. It was strangely comforting to be with him on such a deep level. I felt like he and I really saw eye to eye on how we wanted to be together.

For one, sexual monogamy was not something either of us wanted. He didn't want to have the chance of losing a spark and I didn't see the scientific benefit of monogamy at all. I believed that marriage altogether was an unnecessary ritual that truly proved nothing about how a couple feels for one another.

Lucifer had dragged me to a party at a football player's home on my night off against my own will. I had wanted to stay in and have sex, but he wasn't having it. And the fact that he turned down my offer was very off putting for me. His apparent reason was that I needed to "live a little". A phrase I was trying to understand all night as Lucifer floated around the party socializing like a little butterfly. The only reason I survived the night was the astonishing number of drinks I consumed.

Come to think of it, that is most likely why I woke up laying on Lucifer's chest in a room that wasn't his nor mine. It took me a moment to notice that there were two other women in the bed with us, one of which was spooning my bare body. I found it out that I was the only one fully naked, but at least the bed sheets covered me.

I rose slowly as Lucifer's eyes opened and his lips curved into a cocky smile,"Good morning, my darling. I trust you slept soundly."

"I suppose it was adequate," I glanced around at my surroundings,"Seems like you had the night of your life."

He sat up cautiously as to not wake the other girls. Once he was at my level, he immediately planted a gentle kiss on my lips. All while his finger tips grazed up my collar bone to the nape of my neck before ending the act of affection. When I gave him a questioning look, he replied,"Just wanted to start the day on a pleasant note, Raven. Also to enjoy the fact that you're rather exposed at the moment."

I felt a bit of heat creep up to my cheeks, surely giving them a rosy blush. It was nice to see Lucifer's tender moments, but it was even better when they were towards me.

I said nothing in reply, just smiled in response before crawling out of bed and putting on my undergarments. I searched around for a few minutes for my shirt before narrowing my eyes at Lucifer. I held my hand out,"Hand over my shirt right now, Lu. I have work in a few hours."

"As much as I would hate giving this over to you, I hate you subjecting yourself to a day of stress even more. Call in and tell your boss that you're sick, then I'll take you brunch," He answered with a smile.

Something about his smile made me reconsider my plans for the day. I was always focused on my work and never on what I could be doing. He had this unexplainable power over me that felt as if it were on a chemical level. Lucifer was different from anyone else. Heck, I would have turned down Chloe if she had asked me to do that. Minus the whole being shirtless thing.

"Fine. Just this once, Lu. I can't just stop my work whenever you want me to," I submitted rather regrettably. I took my shirt from his hand and threw it on, thinking about how much I really loved my job.

"Darling, it is going to turn you into an emotionless old maid if you keep it up. I am merely concerned for your well-being," he defended as he crawled out of the bed to approach me.

"Lucifer, I am not emotionless in the slightest. I just simply compartmentalize my emotions so that I can be more efficient in my field. Emotions make things complicated in scientific profession like mine. And prioritizing emotions also helps me cope with the numerous cases that make me sick to my stomach. What I do is important, Lucifer," I say defensively as I step away from him.

"I don't see how constantly being around a bunch of dead people is important. It is just creepy and depressing, my dear," he responds in a tone that was meant to be charming in order to hide the offensive nature of the comment.

I opened my mouth to argue back, but an ebony skinned man walked into the room in a panic. I growl at him,"What the hell do you want?!"

"Uh. I need Lucifer's help. Something happened. A girl's in the pool face down. I think she is hurt," he replies nervously.

"Well, if she isn't moving she is dead and that makes this asshole even more useless than he usually is," I retort before stepping out the room and towards the pool.

And there was indeed a young woman in the pool, with a red dress with fiery hair to go with it stunningly. She was definitely dead. I turn to see Lucifer behind me,"Call Chloe. We have a case on our hands today. I will need her to bring my jumper from my lab along with my equipment."

He rolled his eyes, clearly unhappy with working today when he just wanted to spend the day alone with me.

"Oh don't get your panties in a twist, you asshat. You weren't getting lucky today anyways," I rolled my eyes and proceeded to call Chloe myself.

I had just about enough of this pathetic sentiment for one day. A dead body came as a bloody relief.
