"You are not the smart one in this relationship!" Scorpius protested, folding his arms and scowling down at Rose.
"Oh but I totally am," she replied, grinning smugly at him. "And everyone else would agree with me."
"Why on earth would everyone agree with you?"
"Because I'm Hermione Granger's daughter; at my age, my mother was the brightest witch."
"Well my mother was excellent at Charms-"
"So was my mother. She got 112% on her exam in second year."
"He was really talented at Potions."
"My mother topped the year until sixth year when Harry found a book that he cheated from."
Rose could not believe she was missing out on the lecture McGonagall was giving on Vanishing Spells to have an argument with Scorpius in the empty History of Magic classroom.
"My father was amazing at Quidditch - still is, actually."
"My mother..."
Rose trailed off.
"My mother was completely shit at Quidditch and nothing has changed."
Scorpius grinned and ruffled her hair affectionately.
"Watch it, Malfoy. My hairs bad enough without you sticking your fingers in it. And Quidditch doesn't count. Intelligence isn't needed, just look at Flint."
He drew back his hand and pulled her towards him by the shoulders and she grudgingly allowed him to wrap his arms around her waist.
"At least you took after your dad in Quidditch. You're a pretty good keeper."
She whipped around in his arms and glared at him.
"Pretty good, Malfoy," she said angrily, punctuating each word with a hard prod to his chest with her index finger. "I'm the reason our team won the cup the past two years! If I hadn't saved those- what was it, ten goals? Then Gryffindor wouldn't have beat Slytherin by 300 points. Twice."
Scorpius winced and took one arm from her waist to rub his chest. Softening, while he was peering down his shirt at the red mark her finger had undoubtedly made, she tilted her head up, standing on tiptoes to kiss him. His hands dropped from his collar as he wound his arms around her once more, and kissed her back. Scorpius loved the way Rose kissed him. Gently and sweetly, her lips melting into his, so unlike her fiery, bossy personality. He murmured appreciatively as she ran her fingers through his hair and when he moved one hand to stroke her loose red mane of curls, she didn't complain as she had earlier. Suddenly she was kissing him harder than before, her teeth clashing with his, and he bit down on her lip slightly, something he'd never done before, and he waited for her to shove him away, like he had those few times they'd kissed and he'd lost control, touching a body part she didn't want him to. But she just pressed herself against him and licked her lips quickly before kissing him again, even harder than before if that was possible. Soon, her fingers were reaching beneath the thin fabric of his shirt to trace his collarbones, and his hands were pulling up the hem of her shirt and creeping up her stomach.
"Wait," he said suddenly, releasing her, "Rose, are you sure you want to do this? You're not even fourteen yet."
Rose blushed, her ears reddening, and she tugged down on her shirt.
"No," she whispered, "I'm not sure. I'm sorry I lead you on like that. I just... Couldn't help myself. You're so gorgeous and we've never done more than kiss - and with closed mouths at that - and I'm really, really sorry."
"Don't be," he smiled at her, surprised she'd complimented him and apologised, something he'd only ever heard her do to... No one, actually. "I was doing it too. But we should take things more slowly. We've only been dating for a few weeks. Al would kill me if I slept with you so soon."
Rose laughed and some of the tension was released.
"Well, I wasn't planning on sleeping with you, don't worry."
Scorpius grinned and muttered something about her not being able to help it and how good he was in bed.
Rose snorted.
"You? Good in bed? As if!"
"Hey," he said indignantly, "how would you know what I was like in bed?"
"Maybe because you've never had sex?"
"True. But if we do ever sleep together, trust me, I'll be great."
"Obviously. But let's leave the sleeping together for a few years, dad already hates the fact that I'm dating a Malfoy, I can't imagine what he'd say if you got me pregnant."
"Hmm," Scorpius mused, resting his chin on one hand and staring into the distance. "I think Scorpius and Hyperion are good names for boys? Got any ideas for girls?"
"We are not calling our hypothetical kids any of your bullshit names, Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy."
"Fine," Scorpius pouted, sticking his lower lip out, and Rose was overcome with a sudden urge to bite down on it the way he had on hers a few moments ago.
"This whole taking it slowly thing is going to be more difficult then I thought," Rose muttered to herself.
"Really?" Scorpius smirked at her.
"You weren't supposed to hear that," Rose blushed.
"It's ok," Scorpius replied, "we can practise."
"What?"
"Taking things slowly I mean. Now, for instance, I'm going to kiss you, and you have to try very hard not to rip all my clothes off, at least not immediately."
Rose rolled her eyes but then he was kissing her and she was trying very hard not to rip all of his clothes off. She focused instead on the smell of peppermint and expensive aftershave that seemed to always surround him, and on the way his hands felt running up and down her arms, and the way his lips felt, moving against hers. And Rose couldn't help it. Soon her teeth were tugging at his lip and she was bringing her legs up to cling then around his waist, trembling slightly at the feeling of being so close to him. Eventually, she pulled away, her feet on the ground once more, smoothing down her hair.
"Well I think you failed that one, Weasley," Scorpius said, but he was grinning cheekily, his face alight with a happiness she'd come to see only when he was with her, "though all the clothes stayed on, clinging to me like that wasn't exactly an example of control."
"Oh shut up, Scorp. Don't tell me you didn't enjoy it."
"We're going to be late for Care of Magical Creatures."
"And we missed lunch, though I would have anyway because of that lecture."
"I think my hunger has been sustained quite enough here."
Rose ignored this comment and slipped her hand into his, pulling him out of the classroom, and he scooped their bags up with his free hand.
"Rose?" He asked as they made their way across the grounds of Hogwarts towards Hagrid's hut.
"Yes, Scorp?" She replied.
He let go of her hand to throw and arm over her shoulders, and she leant against him, slipping her own arm around his waist.
"I'm glad you're the one I'm taking things slowly with."
Rose smiled and hugged him quickly, and he kissed her hair.
"Me too, Malfoy. Me too."______________________________________________________________________________
