"So I think I have a crush on Teddy Lupin," Victoire said to her best friend Tom with a grimace.

They were sitting against a tree beside the lake at Hogwarts, shoulders pressed together. Victoire's long silvery hair was billowing out around her and every time it blew in Tom's face, he threatened to chop it off. She said she didn't mind; she was planning on getting a pixie cut any day now.

Tom, a tall, gangly curly haired boy with a contagious laugh and freckles scattered across his nose, had been Victoire's friend since an unfortunate incident involving an unopened tampon and a box of tissues.

"Victoire Weasley has a crush! And on another man! How dare she betray me like this!" Tom was also very dramatic.

Victoire shoved him playfully.

"He's not a man, Tom. He's a person."

"Oh, right. Sorry, I forgot."

"Anyway, what should I do?"

Tom shrugged, and for a moment Victoire thought he wasn't going to say anything, but then a mischievous glint lit in his hazel eyes and she stiffened, knowing whatever he had to say wouldn't be something good.

"Victoire," Tom said, in a very formal voice. "My dear friend." He put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer to him, ignoring her eye roll. "When you have feelings for someone, there are many things you can do. You can a) ignore those feelings b) try to seduce the man - I mean person - of whom those feelings are for-"

"Like you did with Tracy Evans. Yeah, that worked real well for you, Tommy."

"Or c)-" Tom continued, ignoring the interruption. "Ask the person out yourself." He turned to look at Victoire and took her chin in his hand and tilted her head upwards when she refused to meet his eye. "Which will it be, Miss Weasley?"

Victoire grabbed his hand and pulled it away from her face, and mumbled, "Option a)?"

Tom took both her hands in his own and looked sadly into her eyes. For a moment, Victoire thought he was actually going to say something sensible, but then-

"This is why you're not in Gryffindor."

She stuck her tongue out at him and jumped to her feet.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"To ask out Teddy Lupin," she said with a smirk, which didn't quite hide the red blush colouring her cheeks or her trembling hands.

"What if he says no?"

"They, Tommy. What if they say no. And..." Victoire wrung her hands. "I'll be okay. I don't even have that big of a crush on them."

"Only the first crush big enough for you to actually act on it," Tom said casually. Then he sighed. "Look, Vic, Teddy would be crazy to say no to you."

"Aww, thanks Tom." Victoire gave him a kiss on the cheek, looking slightly less nervous.

"Eww!" Tom cried, and wiped away the print her strawberry tinted lip balm had left on his skin.

"You're such a boy," Victoire said, shaking her head. "Anyway, I'm going to go and- and ask Teddy out."

"You do that," Tom said, nodding vigorously and giving her a wide smile.

"I will," Victoire said determinedly.

And she did.
