❝I'm fading... And all I want is to know that I'm going to be okay.❞

14 years of age. Since birth, his family had complicated issues and struggles and problems throughout life. Since birth, his mother had grown distant to her own children and tried to take care of them even through heavy depression.

"You can't just leave your children, you idiot! All you think about is yourself!"

"I'll be back by midnight."

When he was young, he remembered his mother so stressed with big taxes and debt. He remembered her pulling on her hair and screaming bloody murder. He would shield his brother's eyes in fear that he will see the cruel world, just how he saw it.

His mother was cold and distant to him. She would distance herself away from them.

"I'm scared....I'm so scared..."

His father would be away all the time, leaving their mother to care for them. Just for them to grasp upon that opportunity of neglection. And due to fear and lack of control to her anxiety and anger, she lashed out on her children. Yelling and screaming and hitting her children. She just couldn't look at them. She was just too scared.

"I....I swear! I-if you don't pay me, I'll...I'll expose your children to the world! The monsters you created, you manwhore."

"I'm so scared. I don't want to just die with you two here...but what's the point? Hah...You don't deserve to live life. I don't even know anymore. Hah."

His eyes saw the horrors of the world. His first slap, kick, punch... He cried and cried and cried, calling for help, reaching for assistance. No one came after all.

His mother grew insane, and his futures were crumblimg to shambles. His brother grew weaker and weaker from the lack of care, and their food supply shortened each time from neglect. Why?

Saeyoung hoped for the best. He just wanted to be happy. He wanted Saeran to be happy. He wanted his life to be all happy and joy like (Name)'s.

Two years since she moved, hasn't it?

Saeyoung had always depicted to be all fun and joy. Not once had she stopped smiling. He wondered if her muscles hurt. He wondered if her muscles were involuntary in that area and was resulted in that form.

And even if she did stop smiling, you still couldn't take her seriously. Well, for Saeyoung particularly.

"I'm homeschooled." she said in all casualness, her brows furrowed in confusion. "Why are you laughing?"

For them, she had been the most trustworthy friend they've ever met. She'd take care of them, and she'd make time for them. She would make them laugh and smile and show them things that had been happening in the outside world - television, social media, Anime... and cats. A lot of them.

"You're pretty polite," Saeyoung had told her in between bites of his sandwich. (Name) had distributed food ever since the second week of her arrival, and she never insisted into stopping.

"Oh, thanks." she whispered back, shyly. "But you're more kinder. You were the one who let me do this after all."

"Even if our mom hates you?" Saeran had asked with despair.

"I'll continue doing the things I love for you guys. Even if your mom is mean and rude and....hurts me too."

Saeyoung scoffed. "She's crazy. I don't know what got into her these days. I just hope that I'll age quicker so we can get out of here."

"I'm sure that there are reasons behind why your mom is....her, y'know?" (Name) countered softspokenly as she passed another sandwich to him. Saeyoung didn't say anything for a moment, sinking in the thought. Then he rubbed his sore eyes as he said,

"Yeah, there's reasons. Mom's stressed out with things and I know she's scared of what's to come. I guess she's just blinded by all the anger and despair, she just doesn't know what to lash at and panicked....and ended up hurting Saeran and I as if we were just ragdolls."

"'Waste of time, waste of pain...waste of work is all you'll ever be,' she said. And then she burned me." Saeran added with a frightened expression, gripping on the meal he held before him. He shakily took another bite, and Saeyoung clenched his fists in frustration in anger.

"I honestly, brutally, and hatefully despise it here. Saeran doesn't deserve this. I should be taking care of Saeran. And what happens? I'm all defenseless, and selfish, and I just watch from afar like some stupid bystander who-"

"What a cat-astrophe."

Saeyoung blinked. "What-?"

"I can see clearly that your life isn't purr-fect. But don't worry, things'll get butter! We can taco bout your problems any time, but don't push yourself to the limit. I gotta ketchup somehow, no?"

"(Name)...I..."

"Orange you glad that you're still breathing?"

Saeyoung paused for a moment. That last statement she just said had a hint of sadness in it. But from her face, her expression, her smile, it contradicted that. He didn't know what to say. He didn't see the hidden meaning in that sentence. And even so, he felt the pun, and the probable morality. To be alive and healthy, to be breathing and seeing things....

The entire time, Saeyoung was silent. Even the conversations that Saeran and (Name) held up were drowned out with faintness.

Orange I glad I'm still breathing?
