Chapter 17 - Beloved

be·lov·ed

adjective

1. dearly loved.

noun

// bəˈləvəd //

1. a much loved person.

❝It's the problem that everyone considers, when you put others first before you; you're never considered their first priority, for you come second instead.

The moment Saeyoung woke up, he stretched.

"Ehh, what's that smell?" he asked, leaning forward against the couch to see a blanket draped over him. It wasn't as if he didn't like it - he never said that anyways, but it's possible -, though he was curious.

"We're having pancakes," MC proclaimed proudly, placing a pancake or two on a plate.

He wore his glasses just as he stood up, walking over the sets of blankets and pillows to get to his designated location. His grin appeared once more when he did see the pancakes, draped upon syrup, laying on each and every plate provided.

Swiftly grabbing a plate, he proceeded to sit by the table.

"Oi," she said, scowling. "you better purify your mouth before you eat."

Saeyoung slumped in disappointment, just as she said so. He heard (Name) and Hyun snickering in the distance.

"Okay, mom." mumbled Saeyoung, slowly standing up and took his time to travel over to the bathroom. It wasn't his bathroom though, so he didn't particularly feel comfortable in it as he did his business.

But hey-- pancakes. He had suck it up for the pancakes. And so he did his business, for the sake of the pancakes, and marched his way back.

"I'm so proud. I made these all by myself! It actually tastes pretty decent too." he heard MC stating as he made his way back to the kitchen. Then he took a seat, picked up a fork, and chowed down. It wasn't particularly fit for him to be eating something other than his signature chips and soda, but he'll consider pancakes as an exception.

Saeyoung scoffed when he saw (Name) stacking up her plate with pancakes. She looked at him with a puzzled look.

"You think you're going to finish that?" asked Saeyoung, exceptionally amused at the moment. Then, in between bites, she replied with the utmost childishness,

"Of course! Pancakes are bae."

"Bay?"

"Yes, bae. Wait, what type are you talking about?"

Saeyoung laughed, "The ocean kind."

"Oh, no, I meant something else."

"You guys are just awkward." MC commented, earning another snicker from Hyun. She took a bite, swallowed, and took another bite. Saeyoung glanced from MC to (Name) a few times before taking a sigh.

"My beloved pancakes are still bae."

"I still think it's a cute type of awkward!"

Saeyoung then mindlessly grabbed a cup of water and took a sip. He stood up as soon as he set it down, and went to the kitchen. "I need to get more syrup," he said. "do you guys want me to bring it over to the table?"

"Sure." said Hyun.

Thereafter, the room was silent. The quiet murmurs of the threshold continues to discuss then onwards, but Saeyoung didn't mind. He merely passed by the sink and the dirty plates, and arrived by the fridge to obtain the syrup laying by the side of the fridge door.

He took the syrup bottle and subsequently left the kitchen.

In due course, the syrup bottle was successfully transmitted onto the dining table for everyone to use for the time being. Saeyoung stopped when he saw his glass cup nowhere to be found.

"Do you guys know where my cup went?"

"It probably grew legs and ran away." MC snorted, before a serious expression dawned to her. "But no, I don't know where it went."

Saeyoung looked over to Hyun, who said nothing and just shrugged in response. Then he looked over to (Name), and paled.

"...(Name)."

"What?"

"My cup."

She set Saeyoung's cup down.

"What about it?"

"You...you drank from it."

(Name) smiled weakly, before beginning to fidget, and then began to blush, and subsequently proceeded to stutter out nonsense.

"N-no I didn't..."

"But you did. My cup is not there, and-"

She slowly began to drag herself out of her seat. Saeyoung, surprised, watched as she crawled over to what he presumed to be her room. And then she slowly shut the door, and didn't come out. Saeyoung sighed as he looked over to his now empty cup.

"Aww, it was an indirect kiss! How cute." MC squealed, slowly placing the cup into a plastic bag. "I'm keeping this as a memorable quantity..."

"No, MC, please no-"

"MC, yes. All the yes."

-

Saeyoung's footprints against the snow stayed. He smiled gently as he heard the persistent crunching against his feet, as it had been the only noise he had heard throughout his way back. He met a couple of stray cats, all whom hissed and scratched at him, but he didn't mind. He thought of their independence, and how they withstood the snow. All alone.

His unwavered smile faltered, just as he turned a corner.

It wasn't like he didn't enjoy his company with Hyun, MC, and (Name). It's just his memory and resemblance to the past that had triggered him to repent.

"Saeyoung. Saeold. Eh? Eh? Get it?"

"(Name), don't. Not now."

"...Where's Saeran?"

Saeyoung abruptly stopped, and stared in the direction in front of him. The narrow alleyway seemed to be suffocating him with his dread and stress for a moment, before the darkness disappeared and reincarnated as its accustomed vision.

He felt his face brooding. Surely he was expressing a depressing aura - not like he really cared or anything - so he just kept it that way and began to walk once more.

...it really felt as if he really didn't care or anything.

"Saeran's not here. Maybe next time."

In his memory, he recalled to see (Name)'s usual, bubbly smiles.

"That's okay. I'll wait for him until he comes back."

"Do you think he will?"

"Of course. He's always with you." said a woman nearby, just as he exited the narrow alleyway.

The cold air successfully stopped him when it flew right onto his face, and as he opened his eyes, he saw the bright but monochrome world once more. He adjusted his scarf and advanced to continue his way home.

...not like he cared or anything, right?
