Chapter 9 - Encounter

en·coun·ter

// inˈkoun(t)ər, enˈkoun(t)ər //

verb

1. unexpectedly experience or be faced with (something difficult or hostile).

noun

1. an unexpected or casual meeting with someone or something.

❝It is surely a matter or purpose to stay alive as you encounter another person's life with your own.

The air was tense. Many customers went to look and see what had just happened, right at that very moment. Saeyoung, too, denied to believe of such an event that caused this still silence. MC merely gawked and watched as her friend rushed away. As she opened the door to the cafe, MC abruptly stood up, causing a chair to squeak, and ran after her.

"(Name)! Wait up!"

For such an aftermath, Saeyoung could do nothing but sit, breathe, blink, wait...he nearly forgot her. The only person in his life who always shrugged problems off and never stopped smiling. And here she was, right before him, and slapped him in front of countless of strangers who may not even forget this moment.

She slapped him.

And yet, he said nothing. All he did was think of what he did to deserve this.

For a while, he soon decided to order a can of soda from the counter. He had a countless variety of options to choose from, but he didn't find his all-time favorite PhD Pepper. With a sullen look, he chose a random soda.

When he arrived back at the table, he realized that it was taken by some customers that had recently came inside. Sighing, all he was able to do was lounge around and wait until MC came back.

"Hey, Seven," said a disappointed voice. Saeyoung simply turned to see MC, holding this grim expression that he clearly recognized through the multiple times that he did so.

"What happened to (Name)?"

"How the hell should I know? I'm pretty sure it was some deep shit that I don't know about between you and her. Did something happen in the past that may have, you know, triggered her in some way?"

"I don't think so."

"She might be PMSing for all I care..." she whispered. Then she said, "Don't tell her I said that."

Soon she led Saeyoung outside, turning to the direction of the city's park. As she was whistling a tune of some sort, she happily skipped along the snow, ignoring the heavy footprints she created as she roamed pass. Saeyoung's thoughts wondered more deeper into his past.

Saeran. Where he is now is something he would never discover. Or he thought he wouldn't. When he asked (Name) to take care of him...what did she do? She let him run away. Or maybe Saeran ran away in secret without her knowing. But still. It was a simple request, wasn't it? And all she did was lounge away.

Saeyoung didn't make up his mind as he thought whether or not he should put her at fault for his brother's disappearance. But in the end, he didn't. He couldn't. He can't.

"Saeyoung, watch out!"

Suddenly, he was pulled back with his sleeve, causing him to stumble into the snow. All he heard was a car dashing by, and the gushing wind hitting his skin. His eyes were widened to the point that you can easily depict them as plates. And he gawked, shocked to feel himself being pushed back to reality. The ringing in his ears were definitely there, telling him that something risky had happened before him. And he lived because of a single tug.

The crowd around him continued to pass as he tried to steady his breathing.

MC instantly kneeled down besides him as he sat up, punching him with all of her might. Her punch definitely succeeded in giving him pain, making him hiss and recoil.

"Well thanks a lot!"

"I don't sense the gratitude!"

Another punch.

"That hurt!"

And another.

"You're lucky my punches don't hurt as much as a car accident that you almost had!"

And another.

"Quit beating me up, MC! What will happen if the Defender of Justice doesn't prevail to save my Honey Buddha Chips?!"

-

So there sat (Name), as Saeyoung had saw clearly, in the distance with that normal, bubbly smile on her face. She was munching on what seemed like a freshly baked cookie, which MC later stated that she had bought; five pieces.

"Well, folks, time to play matchmaker." MC announced quietly behind him, pretending to hold a microphone just as she pushed him towards her friend. "Today we will be featuring Seven and (Name). This, my friends, is a future couple in their wild habitat."

Immediately, MC swarmed around the defenseless Saeyoung that stood implanted on the floor, fidgeting.

"Nervousness consumes him - look at his dilated pupils as he fixates his gaze in her direction...Sweaty palms, shallowing breath. It's clearly the phenomenon of an upcoming crush!"

"Like the soda?" asked (Name) who was merely grinning in amusement from afar. It seemed to Saeyoung that she already finished her batch of cookies and had taken the time to watch the scene.

MC laughed lightly as she skipped over to her friend, with Saeyoung following along with this slightly timid look on his face as he slowly approached her.

"Hello, Saeyoung."

The name made him flinch. When he made eye contact with her, he noticed her features were more fierce and serious. She didn't dare change her expressions just one slight, taking that time to hear his response. He silently wished that he never met this side of her, one who was more serious and stoic...like him.

"H-hi, (Name)."

"I've never actually seen Seven like this before," MC confessed with a goofy grin on her face, munching on some popcorn that she had recently bought from a nearby food cart.

(Name) seemed to glance over to her friend, and Saeyoung could easily say that he couldn't read her thoughts with that look. He knew by then that he didn't know her. He never did, actually.

But suddenly, when she locked eyes with him once again, she broke out into a large smile. As if she was faking this serious charade that had scared him half to death.

"Am I seriously that good of an actor? Hey, MC, invite your 'boyfriend' over for an acting contest!"

"S-shut up! Zen's busy with his acting career, y'know..."

The sudden quarrel between MC and (Name) startled him even more. What was happening? he asked himself. Was there something I missed?

And all he could ever reassure him was the thought that his childhood, bubbly friend was someone he thought he new.

But he didn't.
