She's The Only One That Gets Me (A Rilaya Story ♡)

Chapter 8.

Saturday, 4:00pm.
Today's the day that Riley and Maya decided they were ready to tell the rest of their friends that they were together. They are really nervous to see what everyone has to say about it and hopefully everyone takes it well. Maya is more nervous than Riley because Maya has this tendency to think that she ruins things, Riley constantly explains to her that it isn't true and sometimes things don't work out and it isn't her fault but Maya still thinks otherwise. Riley is more excited than nervous to tell them because she loves to share her happiness with her friends and she always thinks the best of everyone so she's almost positive everyone will be okay with it just like Farkle was. Riley invited everyone to her house to tell them the news, Riley's parents aren't home today so this is the perfect time to have them over because even though Riley is ready to tell her friends, she still needs a little more time before telling her family.

Maya's POV.
Well it's time to get ready and go to Riley's house and tell everyone we're together. I'm not exactly thrilled about this but I can't say I'm not ready to finally tell everyone what's been going on. Farkle, Lucas, Zay and Smackle are supposed to get there around 5pm. They think we are having a game night or something. For some reason I have a bad feeling but then again, I always think things aren't gonna go well so it's probably all in my head.

Maya arrives at Riley's house and knocks on her door. Riley opens the door and smiles at Maya telling her to come in. Maya could tell Riley was really excited about this so Maya put all her doubt and worry aside and put a smile on for Riley and herself too because she is happy about telling everyone, she just can't help but worry about the outcome. Maya grabs her phone out of her pocket and looks at the time, it's 4:55 so she starts getting nervous because they should be there soon.

Riley: You ready for this?
Maya: I am. You?
Riley: I am too.
Maya: Remember they are our friends so they should understand.
Riley: You're right, everything will be fine.

Farkle, Lucas, Smackle and Zay are on their way to Riley's house for Game Night, at least that's what they think they are going for. Farkle has no clue that Riley and Maya are about to tell everyone else the news but if he knew, he would probably tell them not to be as nervous as they are now. The gang arrives at Riley's house and Riley invites them in.

Lucas: Wooo I love Game Night
Farkle: Me too!
Smackle: I'm just here because Farkle begged me to come
Farkle: Smackle!
Zay: Yeah and I'm just here for the food
Riley: Well um actually there is no game night so Smackle, you're in luck.
Lucas: What?! No game night? Why are we here then?
Farkle: Yeah why are we here?
Maya: Actually we want to tell you guys something.
Riley: Yeah, something that we needed all of you here for and we hope you'll understand.
Lucas: what's going on? Seriously you guys are scaring me
Zay: Yeah what's going on?

Maya and Riley are so nervous right now, they have no idea what to say next, all they do is look at each other to see who's gonna talk next but neither of them are saying anything. Everyone is worried and waiting for them continue so Maya breaks the silence and says "Okay so here's the thing. Riley and I like each other and not just as friends." Riley adds on and says "Yeah, we have feelings for each other and we are gonna see where this goes. We are really happy and I know it's gonna be different but we hope you guys can understand."

Lucas, Zay and Smackle stare at each other in complete shock not saying a word while as Farkle speaks up and says happily "WELL I THINK ITS GREAT." Lucas looks at Farkle and bursts out laughing and everyone looks confused as to why he thinks it's funny. Riley goes up to Lucas with worry in her eyes and asks "What's funny to you?" Lucas responds saying "That you guys would actually think that we would believe this lie" he says as he's still laughing. Maya walks over to him and says "It's not a lie, we are actually together" Lucas stops laughing when he realizes Maya's serious facial expressions and when he looks at Riley, he sees how sad and upset she is too. He quietly asks "How and when did this happen?" Riley explained to him and to Smackle and Zay the whole story, Smackle and Zay thought it was adorable and they were happy for Riley and Maya but on the other hand Lucas was still very silent about it all. Maya sat next to him and asks "So? Are you okay with this?" Lucas looks at her with anger in his eyes and says "No. You guys have no clue what you're doing right now! You two are supposed to be bestfriends, that's all and nothing more! That's how it's always been, I don't understand why you two believe for even a second that you should be together"

Farkle walks over to Lucas and tells him he should go because he sees how heartbroken Riley is at Lucas's response. Maya seems more angry at Lucas than sad. Before Lucas leaves out the door, Maya blurts out and says "You weren't good for her but that doesn't mean I'm not. You two are great at being friends and so are me and Riley and just because we are a couple now, that doesn't mean I'm not her bestfriend like I've always been. If you don't understand us being together then that's fine, you don't have to get it right now but I think you'll figure out a way to if you still care about us. We are supposed to be friends! The things you just said isn't what a real supportive friend does and I think that if you genuinely care about us then you will try your best to accept this, it's up to you." Lucas looks at Maya for a second after she's done talking and then walks out the door.

Maya sits on the couch and starts crying, she can't believe what just happened. Sure she thought in the back of her mind that maybe Lucas wouldn't like it because of his history with Riley but him and Maya are such good friends, she never thought it would be this bad.

Riley sits next to Maya and Maya looks at her and notices she isn't crying anymore. Maya asks Riley if she's okay and Riley responds saying "I'm fine now. Listen, it's okay that he doesn't get it. That didn't give him the right to be such an asshole but you know, that's okay too. He will come around and if he doesn't then I guess we aren't meant to be friends but I think eventually he will come around. Not everyone is gonna understand right away and it sucks that they get so judgmental at first but if they love you, they will find a way to understand. I promise you that we can get through anything together even this" Riley wipes away Maya's tears and Maya hugs her. Maya really thinks that Riley is right about this. If Lucas really cares, he will be okay with this.
Riley, Maya, Farkle, Zay and Smackle all try to forget what happened and have a movie night.
