She's The Only One That Gets Me (A Rilaya Story ♡)

Chapter 10.

Christmas is over so Riley and Maya are deciding what they're gonna do for New Years. Maya knows Riley likes to plan things so she's gonna see what she's got planned. Maya hasn't told Riley but she's really excited about finally having someone to kiss on New Years because she never has and last year around this time, Maya had a crush on Riley but she had to sit back and watch Riley with Lucas. It was really hard for her but she only wanted the best for her bestfriend.

Maya: I think we should do what we do every year.
Riley: Why? Don't you wanna do something different since we're getting older?
Maya: Riles we aren't that much older and traditions stay the same, no matter how old.
Riley: You're right but I think we should do something else.
Maya: Fine.
Riley: Why do you always want things to stay the same?
Maya: I don't, I said it was fine.
Riley: Every time you say something is fine, it's not fine.
Maya: Look I don't wanna keep talking about this. You wanna do something different then let's do something different.
Riley: Is it because we're a couple now?
Maya: Did I say it was?
Riley: You didn't have to say it.
Maya: Listen. Ever since that argument with Lucas happened, I've been uncomfortable. This has nothing to do with you, it's all me. I just wish this was easy but it's not and I know that Lucas apologized and everything's fine with us but I can't help but feel the way I do. I know that it seems like we've been having this same exact conversation over and over again but it shouldn't be this hard to be with someone you like! It just shouldn't be. I wanna be able to kiss you on New Years without feeling this weight because people might look at me a certain way. I don't know.
Riley: Maya, I understand but you said it yourself, it doesn't matter what they think. It's you and me forever and if they don't get it then who cares. You have to stop letting the thought of others ruin your own thoughts and your happiness. Stop overthinking and let things happen. I'm always gonna be by your side, no matter what and I can't wait to kiss you at midnight no matter who's around. Maya: You're right Riles. I'm sorry.
Riley: You have nothing to be sorry for, I just wish you would let yourself be happy. By the way I agree with doing what we always do on New Years, it'll be fun.
Maya: Yay okay! we should go get decorations for the party
Riley: Oh right, let's go!

Maya and Riley go to Target for decorations and they see familiar faces from school. Riley tells them about the New Years party and invites them. Maya is going full out on decorations, Riley can't help but smile when she sees how excited Maya is for this party. Riley really wanted to do something different for New Years but she thought it's about time she did what Maya wanted and seeing how happy this made Maya made Riley know for sure that this is the best thing to do for New Years.

Riley and Maya get home from the store and start putting decorations up. Topanga, Ava and Auggie help too. Topanga noticed how happy Riley and Maya are recently, she can also tell things have been a little different but she doesn't like to be that person who pushes them to tell her what's going on right away because she knows when they're ready, they will tell her.

Riley and Maya go up to the roof to put some decorations there too as well because everyone comes up to the roof when the countdown starts.

Maya instantly thinks about when her and Riley had their first kiss on the roof and smiles to herself. Riley looks at her and says "why are you so smiley?" Maya responds saying "Remember when we had our first kiss up here?" Riley puts her hand on her chin and says "Nope! Don't remember" Maya laughs and asks "Oh you don't remember?, that's funny" Riley walks toward Maya and says "Yeah I don't remember it that well, Remind me how we did it again" Maya smiles and gently grabs Riley's cheek and kisses her then says "Now do you remember?" Riley says "Hmm I think so it's all coming back to me now" Maya and Riley both laugh and finish putting the decorations up then go back downstairs.

Saturday, 10:00pm.
Maya and Riley are having the best time with their friends on NYE. 2016 has been a pretty good year for them but they're really excited for 2017.
Riley and Maya are surprised so many people from school showed up to their party, this is definitely the biggest one they've ever had but it's still fun for them. They start playing games, eat snacks and watch NYE specials on TV like they always do. It's almost midnight so everyone goes up to the rooftop for the countdown.

11:55pm.
Riley: You guys ready for 2017?
Farkle: Yes! It's gonna be even better than 2016
Smackle: I agree, especially if it's another year with you.
Maya: Awww that's so cute
Lucas: I know right, they're so cute.
Smackle: Lucas, now is not the time to flirt with me okay?
Lucas: I wasn't even... okay
Zay: You definitely were man
Smackle: Finally! Someone who gets what I'm saying!
Lucas: You guys are crazy
Riley: Guys! 2 more minutes until New Years!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 🎉
Maya and Riley kiss and hug then tell their friends happy new year. They can't believe they just kissed in front of basically all their friends and nobody even cared. This shows that everybody is just happy to be surrounded with their friends. That's all that matters. Maya, Riley and their friends all head back downstairs to tell Topanga, Cory, Auggie and Ava happy new year. They all eat cake and watch the fireworks on TV.
