She's The Only One That Gets Me (A Rilaya Story ♡)

Chapter 15.

Thursday, 2:30pm.
Maya and Riley head to their last period which is Chemistry. Maya is actually pretty good at it, Riley on the other hand has been having a hard time with it so she asked Maya to help her study. Once Maya and Riley had made up, their friendship has been even better than before. They've always told each other everything but now it's easy for them to open up about the non exciting stuff like hard times with their family or their grades. Lately, they haven't talked about them being a couple, It's not that they didn't wanna talk about it, it just hasn't come up in any of their recent conversations.

School is over and the gang goes to Topanga's to study as always. Maya is gonna help Riley with her chemistry because they have a big test next week.
They all arrive at Topanga's and order hot chocolate. It's been snowing non stop in New York and when it's not snowing, it might as well be because it's still freezing outside!

Farkle: Its really cold out there huh?
Lucas: Yeah man, I'm so ready for summer.
Smackle: I am not ready for summer. I think that cold weather is the best weather.
Riley: Me too, I've lived in New York for so long, I'm used to it.
Zay: Why are we talking about the weather?
Maya: That's what I was thinking!
Farkle: Fine. Let's talk about something else. Did you and Riley make up?
Maya: Yeah everything's good now.
Zay: What were you guys even fighting about?
Riley: Um it was nothing, all that matters is we're okay now. Let's study!
Zay: Uh okay.

Everyone finishes studying and heads home. Maya is going over Riley's for dinner because she hasn't been over her house in awhile. When they get there, Auggie runs to Maya and hugs her tight. Riley looks at Auggie and says "Hey what about me? I don't get a hug?" Auggie responds saying "I see you everyday! Give me a break"

Riley hurries to her room to put her bookbag down and Maya does the same. Maya looks toward the Bay Window with a smile on her face and says
"Bay Window?"
"Bay Window right now." Riley responds smiling as well.

Maya: Wow it feels like it's been forever since we've talked here.
Riley: I know. I missed this.
Maya: Hey, can I ask you something?
Riley: Anything.
Maya: Do you care about labels?
Riley: What do you mean?
Maya: I mean, do you think you have to put a label on everything? like your sexuality....
Riley: I don't think you have to unless you want to. If you're comfortable putting a label on your sexuality then great and if you aren't then that's fine too. At the end of the day, It's up to you.
Maya: But how am I supposed to come out to my mom if I'm not sure what I am?
Riley: Just explain to her how you feel. Be honest with her and she'll understand. I know your mom, she will definitely understand and don't worry about labels, just talk to her and see what happens.
Maya: Thanks, I guess it won't be that hard. I'm just really nervous.
Riley: It won't be, just don't overthink. I can tell you from experience that it doesn't do you any good.
Maya: Okay I won't.
Riley: Okay, Lets talk more about this later. I think dinner is ready so let's go eat, I'm starving.

Maya and Riley go to the dinner table ready to eat dinner, Topanga made Spaghetti and Garlic Bread which is one of Riley's favorites. They all start to eat and talk about their day and what their plans are for the weekend. Riley went on and on about how excited she is for The Oscars and since Riley brought up an award show, Maya started talking about how much she enjoyed The Grammys last weekend and how happy she was when Twenty One Pilots won their award. Auggie joined in and started blushing and rambling over Beyoncé. After they finished dinner and talked about their love for celebrities, Maya said her goodbyes and headed home.

Maya arrives at her house and notices her mom watching a romantic movie. Maya sits beside her and her mom looks so happy to see her and pulls her in for a hug.

"Hey Mom, whatcha watching?"

"Hey Hun, I'm watching Before Sunrise, ever seen it?"

"I'm afraid not Mom, I'm not too big on romantic movies."

"I think you'd like this one. I just started watching it a few minutes ago, I can start it over so we can watch it together if you want?"

"Yes! Let's do it"

Friday, 10:00am.
Maya's POV.
I'm in History class, bored as usual. I love Mr.Matthews but History is just so boring sometimes. I know Riley told me not to but I'm starting to overthink, I really want to tell my mom that I like girls but the thing is I don't even know if I like other girls. All I know is that I liked Riley, I mean.... I do like Riley but I don't even know if we're still a couple. I guess we aren't anymore because of what happened. I'm too nervous to ask her about it, I know we said we weren't gonna keep things from each other but lately our friendship has been the best it's ever been and I don't wanna make things awkward but I guess I should talk to her about it, maybe she's thinking the same thing? I don't know. Am I overthinking? I think I am.

"MAYA"
"Maya...."
"MAYA HART!!"

Oh my god I completely forgot I was in class.

"Sorry Mr.Matthews."

"Its okay Maya, just pay attention next time"

*Bell Rings*
Maya hurries to her locker to get her books for her next class and Riley does the same.

"Hey, you okay?" Riley says concerned.

"Yeah I'm fine, I just didn't get enough sleep last night"

"Riiight. lets start over. This time tell me what's actually wrong."

"Fine. You got me but it's kind of a lot to explain so let's talk about it after school okay?

"Okay, see you later!"

School ends and instead of going to Topanga's after school like they usually do, Riley thinks it's best if her and Maya study at her house today. Once they get there, they make their way to the Bay Window.

Riley: Soo what was up with you today?
Maya: Well, I started to overthink about coming out to my mom and I know you told me not to but I couldn't help it and then I started to think about.... us.
Riley: What about us?
Maya: You know.... about our relationship.
Riley: Ohh that. I've been meaning to bring that up but I didn't wanna...
Maya: Make things awkward I know but we have to talk about it.
Riley: Well, I still like you if that's what you're wondering.
Maya: I still like you too.
Riley: So.. what now?
Maya: I think that if we still like each other, we can still do all the stuff we used to do but not put so much pressure on it like we did before.
Riley: Okay.. does this mean we'd be together but we wouldn't say we're a couple?
Maya: Um yeah I guess so.
Riley: I'm cool with that.
Maya: Okay, so since that's out the way, you wanna study more for that chemistry test now?
Riley: Yes! Oh my god if we don't then I'll definitely fail
Maya: Okay lets start.
