Hanna POV
"All I remember is you and me and Tutor Girl in my car, and then CeCe and Emily, and then you said something about being into CeCe but it could have been Emily, and I need to know." Aria has her arm linked in mine as she rambles about last night.
I raise my eyebrow, "need?"
She rolls her eyes, "Duh. I need to hook my girl up."
I chuckle, "why? Want it to be Emily so you could have CeCe to yourself?" She scoffs and looks at me, "please. I already have my eyes on-" she stops and shakes her head, smiling, "besides the point. Come on." She walks away, towards CeCe's table and I gasp, "Aria Montgomery! Who do you have your eyes on?!"
I make my way to the table where CeCe is listening to music and reading a book. She takes off her earphones and puts the book down when we walk up.
Aria grins, "hey, broody."
She smiles, "hey, cheery...Hanna." Her eyes tear into me like a sword, her gaze so heart throbbing that I have to look away before my knees give out on me.
Aria glances between us with a smirk on her lips before she looks up at me through her eyelashes, "so, I'll see you at practice?" I nod in agreement, "as always."
She slaps my butt and walks away, leaving CeCe and I alone, "so, what's the deal? Are we gonna hang out at this annual Fields money burn or what?" I nudge her and she scoffs as she nods, "yeah, right. Like I'm gonna spend the night with Emily and Wayne on my Friday off? I don't think so. I'd rather stay home with "The Great Gatsby.""
I nod in slight approval and look at the ground, "you know, I read a book last night."
"Really?" She stares at me, waiting for the details and I nod, "yeah, it's about this girl and this other girl, and they've got this really weird vibe thing going on, but there's all this drama, 'cause the girl's got this ex-girlfriend who turns out to be none other than the other girl's sibling. So the whole thing comes to this great, big climax and this big party at their evil dad's house."
CeCe sees where I am getting at and nods along, playing with me, "really? Hmm. What happens in the end?" Her lips curl up and I smirk back, "you're just gonna have to show up to find out." I walk away from her, knowing she is watching me and I bite my lip, trying to contain my blush as I walk away.
Alison POV
Emily groans and sighs angrily, "Oh, this is so stupid! What-why do we have to study history anyway?"
I chuckle and shrug, "so we're not doomed to repeat it."
Emily chuckles and I watch how perfect she looks with her lips wide in a smile, her teeth white and glistening. She's happy. Genuinely happy. I have noticed that she does it a lot lately. Always when she is with me. But that means nothing, obviously. I don't know what she is like in public.
Emily is clearly confused as to why I am staring at her because she chuckles, "what?"
I break out of my daze with a light laugh, trying to shove away my blush I can feel coming on, "look, don't lose hope, okay? Tomorrow's a teacher's work day so you've got a three-day weekend to study."
Emily nods and bites her lip, "minus my dad's annual kiss-his-ass jamboree. Hey, I would invite you, Alison, but it's kind of a b-ball crowd."
I snort and wave her off dismissively, "oh, please, come on. Like I want to kiss your dad's ass anyway." My laugh comes out just as it really is. Fake. Of course I want to go. But I also know that if I do, everyone will question it and it isn't like Emily and I are friends. We don't even talk to each other outside of this room or wherever we study.
"Yeah..." Emily fiddles with her pencil and to break the awkward tension I breathe in, pulling the metal box out, "I made you a study guide. And, everything you need to ace your history exam...is right in this little box of tricks here-NoDoz, eye drops, number-two pencils."
"Why don't you just text message me the answers?" She raises her eyebrow in with a totally hot smirk and I laugh, "Oh! No. So, um, just give me a call if you need anything, okay? And thanks for cutting CeCe some slack."
Emily stands up and smiles, "a deal's a deal, right?" She stares at me and picks my glasses up, putting them on me, brushing my hair out of my eyes to give her better access and my skin burns excitedly in the places she touches.
I don't know what to do. Emily is putting my glasses on for me. But it is most definitely not in a friendly sort of way. Once they are on, her hand is still on my cheek, cradling my face in her warm, soft hand and my heart practically stops all together.
She knits her eyebrows together; her eyes are filled with wonder and questioning, confusion.
When I see her lean in my heart rate picks up to a million miles a second. I get nervous and freaked out so I clear my through, "right," I say, my voice hoarse.
I spin on my heel and grab my bag, speeding out of the tutor center as if a murder is on my tail. When I know Emily isn't near me I sigh in relief as I lean my head against the wall, my eyes closing together tightly as I catch my breath.
We almost kissed.
Emily almost kissed me.
Aria POV
During class my phone rings and I wince as the teacher turns around, "Miss Montgomery. Please put that away."
I look down at my phone and see the name Spencer splayed across the screen, causing my whole mood to brighten, "I'm sorry. I need to take this. Family emergency," I smile apologetically and she sighs, letting me leave.
"Thank you." I hit answer and sprint out of the classroom, "hey stranger," I say and can just picture that beautiful smile of hers as she speaks, "hi there."
"What's up? Miss me?" I smirk and she chuckles, "high on yourself, much? What if I was asking to..." "fix my car?"
Spencer laughs on the other end, making my heart rate speed up already as she speaks again, "not in particular. I want to ask you to go somewhere with me. Like a...lunch date, so to say?" I look around the hallways and grin, "sounds perfect. Where and when?"
"I can pick you up and we can go to the Grille-" "that's okay, really. How about I meet you there? I'm at a store right now, you don't have to go out of your way." I shut my eyes, praying she won't push and thankfully, she doesn't.
"Fine...women and their clothes."
"You're a girl too. Hence why you're a lesbian?" I walk through the front door and hear Spencer laugh once more, "true. See you soon."
"Bye pretty." I hang up and squeal as I sprint to my car, getting in and starting it up. I stare at the school with a bright smile on my face.
As long as she doesn't know I am in high school, this could work.
And plus, you're always better off with a really good lie, right?
I gulp and drive away, speeding to the Grille, the eagerness to see Spencer radiating from my body.
I can't wait to see her again.
