Next Day

Emily POV

"Emily, stay please," my teacher says and I sigh, nodding as I look at Noel, nodding at him to leave.

I shut the door and sigh, "how bad was it this time?"

I slump on the desk and she smiles at me, "actually...you did really great. 85. Congratulations Miss Fields." I look at the test in shock and she chuckles, standing up, "I understand you have been getting a tutor recently? Miss Alison DiLaurentis I believe? She did well. Brought out the best in you."

I stare at the paper and feel my lips curl up into something I realize that I have been doing a lot lately. Smiling. And not my usual, smirk. I am genuinely happy right now. And sure, I am happy that my grade was higher than my normal 60s and 50s but...I am happy because she is right.

Being around Alison was only supposed to be because I wanted to mess with CeCe. But now? I am smiling because of her. I am actually myself when I am around her because she makes me feel so comfortable, so...accepted for who I really am.

"Yeah...yeah she did," I whisper and grin, "thanks ma'am." I run out of the classroom, looking around the hallways.

When I pass an art room I see Hanna, at a board, painting on it. I walk in slowly, "what do you call that one?" I ask, looking at the black paint. She doesn't even turn, she just says, "love."

It makes my heart sink and I look down in shame.

"What do you want Emily?"

"It's what I don't want..." I slap my hands to my sides helplessly, "I don't want this for us, Hanna." "Well maybe you should've thought of that sooner," she snaps while turning to look at me.

I close my eyes and nod, "yeah, I know. And uh...I've been thinking about how we were when we started going out. Like that day at Milford Beach. The nights in your room..."

She scoffs and shakes her head, "we haven't been that way in a long time."

"We could be. Come on, Hanna. I've been thinking about you. I know you've been thinking about me."

She frowns, "I've actually had a lot going on lately."

"Yeah, me too. My dad's been going crazy about this father/son game and my mom... it's like ever since she came back she's been wanting to hang out and-" "I really can't hear this right now."

I freeze and stare at her painfully, then nod, "alright. Well, how about you come to the game? Maybe we could hang out afterwards."

Hanna doesn't answer, instead she turns back to her painting.

I walk closer and sigh, "I miss you, Hanna...I'll see you there." I leave the art room and look down at my hands, then see the test in my hands.

My mouth instantly pulls up into a smile again and I look out the window of the school, seeing Alison walking, adorable glasses on the bridge of her nose...wait...adorable?

Anyways, I sprint outside, past Noel who yells after me. I grin, "ALISON!"

She jumps but turns around to see me, a curious look on her face as I show her my test, "check it out."

She looks at it and scans it, "85...85! Oh my gosh!" She shoots her eyes up to me excitedly, "EMILY THAT IS AMAZING!" She hugs me tightly and I hug her back, lifting her up and spinning her before I widen my eyes and set her down, gulping as my cheeks heat up, "sorry."

"No it's um...my bad..."

I smile nervously and scratch behind my neck, "so I'll see you then? Tonight?"
