"My little ones!" I cried as I ran to my Dragons. Drifa and Edur let out growled of excitement, Edur wrapped himself around my legs while to my surprise Drifa stretched her beautiful glossy wings and flapped them.
She rose of the ground until she was eye-to-eye with me.
"Drifa you can fly!" I hugged her, "My precious daughter I'm so proud of you!"
Wait daughter? Did I just say that?
I couldn't hide the truth from myself anymore. I did think of my Dragons and my children, this motherly instinct to love them was killing me every time I was separated from them.
Edur cried out and I sat down to rub his head, "I love you too Edur."
Wystan sat quietly watching me. He had gotten this whole room ready for my babies.
Blankets scattered across the floor, light for us to see, food for Drifa and Edur and best of all, he found every book he could about the Snow Dragon and Dragon babies he could. They were stacked up in an enormous pile beside him.
Edur flapped his wings and I watched with eager eyes as his claws roses from the ground just slightly the collapsed.
"It's alright you keep at it. You'll be able to fly soon" I kissed the top of his head. His's scales were cold but I loved the touch of them, Drifa fell on my lap unable to keep herself in the air.
"Your a good mother Azalea" Wystan moved closer to me.
I leaned against his shoulder, "It's because of the Dragon mark" I looked at it on my arm. When Emise forced me to wear Tirani dresses I said yes on one condition, that my arm would be covered.
It looked weird with only one sleeve covering my arm. But nobody questioned me.
"No, even without the mark all of this love you show comes from your heart. You loves these Dragons, they are your children, your son and daughter. You my Queen are the Dragon Mother."
My heart beat rose almost bursting out of my chest, Wystan wrapped his arms around me and very gently lifted me and sat me on his lap. My head laid against his shoulder blade, he was so warm. But for the first time I liked being warm.
I closed my eyes and wrapped my arms around his neck.
His fingers ran through my hair, his other hand rubbed my back.
For one moment, one precious time-stopping moment, we were alone. Together alone.
"I have feelings for you Azalea. I treasure you more than just a friend" he murmured in my ear.
The words escaped my mouth, "I do too Wystan. I'm glad you chose me as your Queen."
We became silent once more and I treasured the silence. Wystan and I together with no one around. However sadly the moment was ruined.
Edur jumped on Wystan's back, "Hey!" he protested.
He gave a chirping sound and wrapped his wings around Wystan's back.
I laughed, "Hey, Snow Dragons show their affection by clinging and wrapping their wings around the one they like. Edur likes you."
Wystan turned his head, "Oh is that so? Do you like me?" Edur rested his head on Wystan's shoulder and croaked.
"That I think is a yes."
I leaned over to grab a book I had been reading before this, It was about the growth of Dragons. "Dragons fully grow when they do something worthy of an Adult body. But as you said Wystan they can't create offspring for any other few years. It's of the utmost importance that Young Drgaons do what they can to be gifted with the adult body. If it takes a long time for a young to grow then it'll take longer for them to have young of their own."
"Does it say how to gain the adult body?" he asked wincing as Edur's claws dug into his back, "Edur come" I ordered and he got off. In seconds he was at my feet curling up.
"This can be achieved in many ways. Finally being able to fly, breathing Ice, Eye color change, growing spikes anything. It depends on the Dragon" I read over and explained.
Drifa nudged Edur, she walked towards the fire and laid down she let out a purr and Edur joined her. The two curled with each other, "Drifa is a good sister" I breathed.
"I'm sure Edur will be a brave and ferocious Dragon when he's grown. It always happened to the shy little ones."
"Can we go for a walk Wystan?" I asked, "I want to see the Kingdom."
He nodded, I got up first so he could get up too. Wystan stood up and took my hand. He opened the door into his room. With one last look at my Dragons sleeping I closed the door.
"Your room's nice Wystan" I observed.
He chuckled, "Were you so busy trying to get to your Dragons you didn't even look at my room?"
I blushed, "Well... yes."
The door opened, "Wystan can I-" Terris walked in then stopped when she saw me.
"What's she doing in your room?" she demanded.
Oh no she probably thinks that Wystan and I... Eep!
"I invited her here to see my room. She is my betrothed and she has a right to come in here, We were about to go for a walk care to join Ris?"
Terris glared at me, "No I got better things to do." she slammed the door shut.
I looked at Wystan and he shook his head, "Please excuse her, Terris isn't very friendly towards strangers."
"Can we go for that walk now?"
"Of course."
