I sat on the floor with my eggs.
I put a blanket on my lap and had both eggs in my lap, I needed to hold them.
Why do I care so much about these eggs? I thought to myself.
"You were amazing out there."
I turned around to see Wystan leaning against the wall, "I mean it Azalea, my parents were impressed with you and my sister absolutely loves you."
I smiled, "I'm glad, I was nervous that they wouldn't like me."
He laughed, "What's not to like about you?"
I was about to say something when he frowned and keeled beside me, "Azalea may I see your arm?"
My arm? I too frowned but allowed him to take my arm, he lifted my sleeve up a bit and I could just see something black on my skin. He pulled it up all the way to reveal a black tattoo in the shape of a dragon on my arm.
I gasped, "W-when did that happen?"
He gently ran his fingers over the tattoo, "It looks like it was burned into your skin. Azalea were the eggs alone when you found them?"
I shook my head, "No they were with their mother-"
"Oh the mother dragon touched my arm and I did feel a burning pain! Did she do this?"
Wystan nodded, "Yes. This looks like the mark of the Dragon Mother."
"Dragon Mother?"
"Yes Azalea see when female Dragons give birth they die, to assure that her eggs would not die too the Dragon marked you and gave all her motherly love to you so you'll watch over her eggs. These are your Dragons now Azalea."
I put my sleeve down, "What if I don't want them to be mine?"
He shook his head, "You have no choice in the matter now, that mark prevents you from mistreating or abandoning these eggs. Admit it ever since you found them you want to touch them and when I caught the egg you felt threatened by my presents. Females are like that when a male gets to close to their young."
I couldn't help but smile at him, "You sure know much more about Dragons than I do."
"Well I've only read up on the Thunder Dragon, Snow Dragons are out of my league but with raising young all Dragons seem to be the same."
Suddenly there was a knock on the door, "Azalea are you in here?" Aisha asked.
"Yes Aisha come in."
She opened the door and Vana walked in with few cinnamon sweet apples, "Princess, oh your Majesty! I brought you both a snack."
I took one, "Thank you Vana, here Wystan try one" I handed one to him.
He took a bit and his eyes widened, "Gods above this is amazing!" I laughed and took a bit of mine, the rich flavor of sugar and cinnamon exploded into my mouth.
Aisha and Vana sat on the floor eating one too and we munched on an apple together, "How are the eggs?" Vana asked.
I had placed them in the basket while I ate, "Their doing fine- look!"
Everyone turned their heads and we all saw the eggs starting to move, "I think they might be hatching!" Wystan said.
I moved the basket and placed the eggs and blankets on the floor so they had room, we all got on our bellies and watch with wide eyes.
The biggest egg started cracking, little parts of the eggs shell started falling on to the floor and I could see a tiny nose. The nose started to break at the shell more and pieces fell off again. The little egg began moving too. Finally the top shell broke and a tiny little creature fell out. I watched in amazement as it unraveled itself into a small baby Dragon. It's scales were white and somewhat light blue. It had the most amazing blue eyes ever.
It unfolded it's wings and crawled over to me pressing it's face to my cheek, "It's a girl" I said.
"How do you know?" Wystan asked.
I pointed to it's face, "Male Snow Dragons have little spikes near their eyes and on their noses, females don't."
I sat up and picked up my little Dragon. She cried out then snuggled in my dress.
"Azalea look the second one is hatching!"
I looked up to see the top break and another Dragon fall out. This one was very small, but I immediately noticed the spikes near it's eyes and nose, "See that one is a male."
He wailed and cried out so I picked him up and curled him with his sister.
They let out soft growls and noises that sounded like purrs.
"Their beautiful" Vana sniffed wiping away some tears.
I nodded and gave both of them a kiss, "I'm going to name the female Drifa."
Wystan moved beside me, "Why?"
I looked at him, "Drifa is a name for snow" then I looked at the male, "I'll name her brother Edur, also a name for snow."
"Drifa and Edur those are wonderful names."
I jumped and we all looked back at the door to see Wystan's sister Mirabai standing there, "Mira! Did you follow me?" He asked angrily.
She nodded, "I won't tell anyone I promise!"
"You better not or Father will take them" he gritted his teeth.
"NO!" I screamed and held them closer, "No one is taking my Dragons from me!"
Mirabai keeled down, "Don't worry Azalea we won't tell. Gods above two real live baby Dragons, and their so beautiful."
I laid Drifa and Edur into the Basket by the fire, "Yes. Yes they are."
________
And the Dragons Hatch! Drifa and Edur do mean snow. I looked up names that mean snow and those two I liked. If you don't believe me go check it out yourself :) Mirabai reminds me of me, following her brother to a secret place then promising to keep the secret. That's what I was like as a child. Well I'll see you guys in the next chapter where we get another look at the Tirani King and Queen.
