David!

There he was.

David was thankfully asleep and that gave me a lot of time to think and react accordingly. My first instinct was to wake him up and ask him what had happened but looking at the fact that the accident happened just two days ago and that he only regained consciousness today, I wouldn't want to disturb him.

What a scene!

His right leg was plastered till the thigh area indicating that he broke his left tibia otherwise in layman terms ,the shin bone. How I know that because I did research on human bones and many other weird stuff like that when I was writing my first book back at my younger days. Anyways , back to the series of injuries he had. So his left leg was broken and on the right, his leg was wrapped by this huge chunk of bandage.

His right hand was also plastered from his wrist till his elbow indicating that the injuries obtained on the arm was very severe. His left hand thankfully was fine except for the frequent small patches of cuts that went to the length of the whole arm. His entire head radius was covered by, I'm guessing, one extremely long piece of the clinical plasters.

Some part of me was very happy and delighted that David was alive and well but then there was the other side of me that really wanted to know what had happened that day.

Being the impatient man I always was, I decided to wake David up. so I gently walk to the other side of the bed and patted him on the only part of the body that didn't look like it had been injured; his shoulder. David was a light sleeper so just a mere three pats to the shoulder managed to wake him up.

The first thing that he was able to do was to let out a faint smile. He looked like he didn't eat anything for a whole year. The room was relatively quite. I could only hear the distinct chatter of nurses in the background. Like I said , part of me was really very happy that he was perfectly fine, and some part of me was really worried about his recovery and there was that major part of me that really wanted to know what happened that day.

Then I broke the eerie silence that surrounded us," What happened? Tell me dude, what happened to you!?"

His face swelled up. For once in my life, I could see the distinctive features of his face considering almost half of it was covered up.

He replied, "It wasn't supposed to go this way! This should have not happen on one of the biggest days in my life. NONONONONO! It cant just happen. Omar, I don't even know how it happen. It all happened so fast my poor brains couldn't even think!"

Even his sense was humor was dampened.

"Just tell me what happened on that day David, Tell me everything from scratch." I said in an authoritative voice.

He continued, " when you hung up the phone, I was driving on the second lane and was just 10 below the speed limit. Then I decided to move to the first lane. So like all cautious driver here, I looked back and I clearly remember that there was no car behind me and thus I decided to move to the first lane and just as I was about to cross from the second to the first lane, something hit the back of my car pretty hard because the sound for once was very loud and the next thing u know I was rolling and after that..."

clearly shocked, i said, "then what happened brother ?"

"then I just remember waking up here with a lot of pain all around my body" was all he could say when a nurse whom i presumed was the one in charge of the whole ward came to me and told me that visiting hours were over and that I could come back the next day.

So I decided to leave and promised him that I would be there first thing in the morning. As I approached the carpark, i just could not stop thinking about what David had told me back at the ward. The thought also came across my mind that maybe this might be an attempt to murder but I ruled that one out because who would want him killed?

At least that was what I thought!
