It was just the break we needed and was looking for.
It felt like we already had solved the case. The trip to the hospital actually took around half an hour but it only felt like ten minutes. I couldn't express the happiness that i was feeling at that point of time. It was the joy that I have had never felt before.
We reached the hospital and literally ran to David's ward. I knew he was going to be very elated when I would tell him what we found. At some point of time, I did have the feeling that this break that we found might lead us straight to another dead end or might not even work. But then ill just tell myself that there Is still hope and that would give me some relaxation.
As we approached David's room, we saw Mr Imran waiting outside the room. We approached him and Luke asked him,
"Sir, what brings you here?"
"Well nothing, just wanted to meet David and just talk to him that's all."
"Well in that case, lets all go in together!"
As we entered the room, we, for a second, got the fright of our lives!
David was not in his bed.
"WHERE IS DAVID?" his dad screamed.
For once, in the state of happiness, forgot that David was in the X-Ray theatre.
"Right sir, David was in the X-Ray theatre. He is probably still there." Luke calmed him down and gave me a slap on the back for forgetting that. We were all on the way to the X-Ray theatre when I received a call from the hospital itself telling me that David's X-Ray was done and that he is on his way to his room.
With that, we made a U-Turn and went in the direction of David's room. It felt like years since I was this happy and deep down inside, I just hoped time froze and I could enjoy this point even longer. But i am not some time wizard who can control time so that was not and never going to happen. It didn't take us a lot of time to reach David's room.
The moment he came back, we decided to talk about what we found with Mr Imran in front of us so that at least he knew what was going on. So it was to basically keep him updated and also assure him that his son's case is in good hands.
We told David. We told him how we were at a dead end from the previous time we met and how we found many links but none was distinctive enough to be even called as evidence. Then we went about talking about the findings at the highway and how it was a simple intuition and how David thought I was an idiot. We just talked for hours. We talked stuff regarding the case and then we talked about our personal lives yet once again. We talked and talked about all the different things. We spoke about the plans we had this holiday.
For example Luke had decided that he was going to go on a fishing trip in the South China Sea. I had my own plans too. David had also decided that he was going to start working out and adapt a healthy lifestyle so that he could lose some of his body fats. Mr Imran talked about how the conference he attended to was going to be a major advantage for his life and how it could change his life forever.
Seconds, minutes, hours went by and we were just talking about all this. The atmosphere suddenly became very positive. It also for once felt as if everything was back to normal but that is when I was pulled back to reality.
That reality that nothing was right.
Nothing was back to normal.
Nothing at all.
I suddenly recalled about Suzanne. I wanted to share this with everyone but just did not have the guts. I knew sooner or later I would have to tell them right? I knew sooner or later they would have to know what I am thinking. They deserve that basic respect of knowing everything i knew in relation to this case. I am no police officer nor am I an investigator, yet I was solving this case. Why?
Because it was my responsibility. How you might ask, if i had forbid him from meeting her In the first place, then none of this would have ever happened. That's why I hold myself guilty of whatever has happened and I truly believe that whatever happened must not have happened at the first place. So I figured it was a now or never situation and I decided to tell them.
I knew they were probably going to freak out and discredit me of this very assumption. I knew that if I pointed fingers at her, my friendship might be at stake. But yet I do not why I decided to approach them. By that time, Mr Imran left because he had some work to handle and I took the chance to say it.
"Guys, I actually have someone I suspect..."
