What a busy day!
While Jonathan was busy doing his part of the investigation, Luke on the other hand had gotten to the police headquarters in the nick of time. According to Luke, if he had not reached there on time then they were going to send that car to the scrap yard and we all know what happens when a car is sent to there. It is literally the graveyard of cars where they are cremated.
That was a close call. We were on the phone when this happened so I heard the conversation between Luke and the officer in charge. They were discussing about something. Had to be important because I remember the conversation lasting for quite some time. Now, the reason why I cant exactly remember what they were talking about was because I was more focused on what Jonathan and what he was doing.
Jonathan was tackling military grade encryption which was weird for a CCTV to have and would take some time so patience was our best friend at that point of time. As for what was happening at the headquarters where Luke was, it went our way and Luke managed to get full custody of the car. Of course this happened after they finished their long conversation and after they called David, asked him numerous questions for what they called verification and then making sure Luke signed every piece of paperwork that must have been filled. Talk about random paperwork.
He then called a tow truck and made sure that the car made it to the workshop David talked about safely. After that, he called me to confirm all of these and then I told him to meet me at the workshop with the car and I also told him to make sure nobody strictly makes any physical contact with the car.
He knew why and made sure that no one touched the car. I told Jonathan to keep on trying and to call me if there was any break and in the mean time, I told him that I was going to the workshop to look at whatever is left of David's car.
Jonathan looked rather perplexed.
I could guess he was looking forward to spending some time with me. But he was well aware of his priorities and talking to me was not one of them. So he did not say anything. I quickly left and got onto my car. I have been parking it just below my flat instead of parking at the multi story carpark which was a few blocks away.
I figured I must not waste any time so it was a really good idea to park just below my block at the loading and unloading bay. Although that is liable for a fine but i wouldn't care much about that.
I left and leisurely made my way to the workshop. I knew where the place was because i have been there before a couple of times to tweak my car a little bit. It did not take me much time to reach my desired destination. When i reached there, Luke was already waiting for me.
Behind him, was David's car. It was badly beaten up. It looked like it took more than 80% of the impact from the accident. I really thanked god that nothing had happened to David.
The mechanic from that workshop was Mr Rick and he was a very good mechanic. Devoting all his live towards cars and other automobiles, He never got married nor did he settle down in life. All he did was to design cars earlier and now usually make prototypes of models he designed before and also does some twerking of cars.
He was what we would call today, a car enthusiasts. In the past, this had no significance however, in todays society, he was an expert in what he does and no one could and can ever be better than him.
Anyways, as I approached Luke, he asked,
"Any luck with the CCTV camera footage back at home?"
"Nope. Sorry dude its going to take some time cause it had military grade encryption and that is a little bit difficult to hack through. But we will do it. we just need some time."
"Sure no problem Omar. Anyways, where is Mr Rick?"
"I am here boys!"
We looked behind and were shocked out of our faces. He was wearing a 1980 brown leather jacket and wore a pair of cowboy shoes and an unusual looking pair of pants. He sure did look weird. As I introduced him to Luke, i couldn't help but notice that he kept on looking at David's car. He looked worried. He asked,
"Isn't that David's car?"
"Unfortunately, Yes! Yes it is." Luke replied as silence surrounded us.
Dead drop silence...
