25. Shopping trip

What a relief.

It felt great. To just unwind after such a hectic week. To walk amongst people and spend money like we used to do. It just felt great. The feeling of freedom was just great. It was maybe what we really needed. I realized that i had some shopping to complete before a new semester begins in school and I had purchased everything from a new wallet and pencil case to a new bad and had purchased enough stationery to last me through yet another hectic crazy semester.

I also bought some cloths for myself. Luke had done his part of shopping too. He purchased two pair of jogger pants and multiple t-shirts. We decided to buy something for David too. It was actually quite difficult to buy something for him because we were actually unaware of the size he wears. Plus to add on to that, he had actually cut down on some weight. I decided to call David up and ask him again.

"Hey bro! How you doing now?"

His voice sounded tired and he just grumbled.

"Dude, do you want something? I can buy for you. Anything. You just name it."

I have no idea what I was thinking and why I asked him to name something he wants. He thought for an extensive amount of time before finally coming to a conclusion on what he wants. What he wanted was really unexpected because i really had not expected him to ask me for a new phone as well as a pair of socks and three Star War t-shirts.

Everything that he wanted me to buy was just so unusual. I had expected him to say things like denim t-shirt and a pair of jeans but what he asked me to buy was completely not his type of fashion sense. Nevertheless, we purchased everything he asked for including a new mobile phone. We got into the car ready to pay David a visit and also to pass him everything we had purchased for him.

It did not take us long before we arrived at the hospital. We passed David his things and decided to talk to him about whatever had happened for the past few days.

"Hey Omar, i know you and Luke are all tensed about me and are eager to find out who did this to me. Well, don't bother anymore." David murmured

"Why not bro? I know its been hard for you and i know that we have not been able to arrive at a conclusion yet but don't you think we should at least find out who did this?" Was all Luke could say when David spoke.

But now in a higher tone.

"NO! I said we will not pursue this anymore means we will not pursue this anymore. Is that clear? Alright guys! I have had just enough and I do not want you guys to do anything!"

I was shocked out of my wits. I could not believe what he had just said. I just could not believe that I saw this attitude from David. I never thought this was where this was all heading.

He continued, now with a quieter tone,"Make a promise to me now guys please will ya?"

Luke just said," Let me guess, you want us to promise that we stopped pursuing this? Is that it?"

He murmured, "Yes."

I knew something was wrong because he was not that type of people.

I knew.

He was going to be discharged within a couple of days and I had not seen this coming. I was disappointed. My hands were getting cold but I could feel the anger in me. My hands and feet was freezing from the cooling temperature at the hospital but my head was equally hot. I could not believe it at all. Mixed feelings and emotions were flowing through my mind within that period of that time.

I could not think of what to say. I could see Luke was in the same state as me. I knew he was equally confused and annoyed as I was.

I finally spoke,"Bro, what happened? Till one day ago, you were excited to solve this so why the sudden change if attitude?"

David kept quiet. He was insistent of not saying anything. I finally lost hope and sat down beside him. I looked him in the eye and spoke. I could feel a tear roll down my cheek. Why, I have not even the faintest if clues.

"David, i am going to ask you once bro. All these days, both of us spent all our time and effort into finding the culprit. All this time we spent looking for the person who might have done it. We spent and sacrificed everything bro. For what? For you dude! Come on. You better give me one damn good reason why I should stop this investigation?"

He finally lost the attitude he had a minute ago.

"Omar, i know what you have done. I know what both of u have done and I will never be able to pay this favor. I know that this time u guys sacrificed for me is priceless but you have to listen to me this time. I'm not trying to condemn you or whatsoever..."

He paused and analyzed our faces. I'm pretty sure that is what he did.

He then continued.

"I know what u guys have done and I am really thankful to you guys. The problem isn't with you or Luke. The problem is with me. I am tired of running. I am tired of trying to find out who tried to kill me. I am tired of trying to find that person who is responsible for putting me in this situation. Bro I am tired... I really am"

And he broke down. He just did...
