A Day in the Park

Chapter 6

“Did I hear Chloe call you pancakes?” Harry asks. You tell them the story again like you had told Liam the day before. They all start laughing then stop when someone asks ‘Why doesn’t she call you mom?’ “That would be because I am not her mother. She is the daughter of my sister.” “Where is her mother” Harry asks. “She died about 2 months ago.” You respond softly. You look at Chloe and she has tears in her eyes. “I miss mommy.” You hear Chloe say. “I know you do babez. I do to, but you know that she is in a better place now with grandma and grandpa Blunk. They are looking down on us and they are happy at what they see babez. You are a good girl and will be very smart and will be able to do anything that you set your heart on” you respond. You look around you and notice that you have every eye on you and Chloe. “My sister and I were adopted when she was 13, I was 10. Our parents died in a plane crash. We grew up in the foster system until we met a family that adopted both me and my sister.” You state. You look at each of their faces, making Liam last. They all have sadness in their eyes and on their face.

You just go back eating while Chloe plays with her food. “Are you done babez?” You ask Chloe. “Yes. Can I go play now?” “Yes but you have to go play in the living room. I don’t want you running off like you did. You gave aunt pancakes a heart attack.” “Ok.” She responds with sadness in her voice.

You turn back to the guys. “Who wants seconds?” you ask. Each one of them “I will!” you giggle a little. “That is the best chili that I have ever had, Kenzie.” Niall says. “Thanks Niall. Cooking is in my blood. My biological mother was a baker, and my dad was a chef while my mother was a baker as well.” You turn around and smiled at him. His eyes just lit up and a smile on his face. You turn around and you hear him talking to Liam. “You better keep her or I am going after her.” You giggle and turn around. You look at Niall and his face was bright red knowing that you heard him. You look at Liam and he is just staring at Niall with such rage. You give each of the boys their plates back and give Liam’s last. When you go to give him his you learn down and plant a kiss to his mouth. He was not expecting it so it took him a few seconds to respond. “Get a room!” Louis yells. “We have a room. It’s not my fault that you are in it.” You retort. “OH I like her. She’s sassy.” Louis says chuckling with the guys.

“So what do you do for a living, Kenzie?” Zayn asks. “I’m a social worker for a homeless shelter down town.” You say. You look at him and his mouth is wide open. That’s when Chloe walks in. She goes straight to Zayn and closes his mouth and says “It’s not nice to have your mouth open like that.” You look over at Liam and the both of you start laughing. “What’s so funny” Niall says “When I told Kenzie that I was in a band, she had her mouth wide open like that and Chloe said those exact words to her.” Liam says. Everyone had an OH on their mouths. “I work for a non-profit, Christian homeless shelter. I love my job. I am proud that I am able to help others when they need it the most.” That made everyone, but Chloe stare at you. “You’re a Christian?” Liam asks. “Yes. Is that going to be a problem?” You question. You look at each of the guys and they aren’t able to meet your eyes. “I don’t know to be honest.” Liam says.

You look at the clock not wanting to meet anyone’s eyes. You notice that it is almost 11. “You need to go to bed babez.” You say to Chloe. “Okay pancakes.” We go up stairs to give her a bath and put to bed. When you finally leave her room and head downstairs you notice that the guys aren’t in the kitchen anymore. You go in there are notice that all the food is put away and is clean spotless like the night before. You head for the stairs thinking that Liam had left without a goodbye again, but you stopped when you heard voices coming from the living room. One said “You can’t let her go, Liam.” Another said “Are you able to date a Christian. That means nothing until you get married.” Your heart sinks into your chest and you feel like you have just got your heart ripped out of you. “I don’t care if she is a Christian. I have started to have feeling for her. It’s like I have been waiting for her my whole life.” Liam responds to that statement. A small smile appears on your face. You move a little and the hard wood floor creeks. All the guys look at you. You smile and walk in. They act like nothing has happened, and you don’t bring it up. “I think you should go now.” You say. “Are you sure?” Zayn asks. “Yes I got Chloe asleep in her room and I have work at five tomorrow.” You respond. “Ok. I’ll see you tomorrow so we can talk.” Liam says. “I can’t. I have to work.” “Oh” is all Liam could say.

You walk on over to the door with the guys behind you. The boys leave the house and walk to the car. Liam waited behind to talk to you. “Is anything wrong?” Liam asks. “No. Chloe is home, everything is great.” You say. “It’s late. You need to go back to your hotel Liam.” “I will. Good night Kenzie.” He leans down to kiss you and you turn your head, so he kisses your check. You are looking at the guys in the car. They see this and shake their heads in disbelief. Liam walks out of the house without around word.

 You head upstairs to get ready for bed. I can’t say that I don’t want to be with Liam because I do. But after hearing one of the boys say that about my religion makes me wonder if I should even proceed with a relationship with him. I will not give up my religion and my Faith in God because of a guy. I never did that with any of my other relationships, I’m not going to do it now. It's not like I haven’t had sex before. Shiloh took that away from me. But that isn’t why I’m upset. I just couldn’t believe that they would judge me by what I won’t do. They don’t know what has happened to me. There is a reason why I don’t let people in. You lay in bed and slowly drift off to sleep.

Liam’s POV

She heard us talking I know she did. Why did I have to bring the guys with me tonight? Oh ya. Chloe was missing and I needed all the help I could get. I want to make every bad thing in Kenzie life to fade away. I don’t want her to feel like she has to do everything. “So what is going on with the two of you? You just met her. Are you sure that you want to get involved? It sounds like she has a messy background.” Niall asks pulling you out of thought. He was the only one who knew of Kenzie before tonight. I came back to the hotel and he was just waiting for you at the door. He was searching for food but he noticed the smile on my face and cornered you with questions. We were back at the hotel and were in your hotel room. “I don’t know why but I feel like I need to protect her from the bad things in life. I know there has been many things happen to her in her life, but I want to protect her from the future things.” Niall just nods his head.

Niall wasn’t the one that questioned. It was Zayn. I know that both Niall and Louis like Kenzie. I wonder what Harry thinks. He hasn’t said much of anything. That's when Harry walks in. “Liam we need to talk.” He states. “Well hi to you to mate.” Niall says chuckling. “I don’t yet have an opinion of Kenzie. But if you are going to presume this you will treat her right. She has gone through a lot and it sounds like that isn’t all that has happened. Plus she has Chloe to look after. You can’t just come into her life and walk out like nothing happened.” He keeps going but you tune him out because you know this already. You heard it from management and you have said it to yourself as well. Management doesn’t want us to see each other because of Chloe. It’s not Kenzie's fault that this has happened. I can’t just leave like nothing happened. Something happened and it will never be ok if I leave. Just walk out of her life like these past two days never happened. How would anyone be able to do that to someone that they could care about?

Louis walks in making you jump back to the conversation. “What are you guys talking about?” He asks. “Who do you think?” Niall retorts. “I like Kenzie. She has a good heart and a strong backbone and will be able to take shit from people.” He states. We all look at him like he just said the best thing on this planet. “I have to talk to management.” You state. “Do you need us to go with you?” Harry asks. You think about it. I could get the guys to tell them what they have seen of Kenzie and Chloe. They could help me change their minds. Now I just need to know what Zayn thinks. “Where’s Zayn? Get Zayn in here.” You say. Niall gets up to go find Zayn. They both walk in and you look straight at Zayn. “What do you think of Kenzie?” He just stood there like you had slapped him in the face. “I-I” He starts to say then stops. “I think that she is a troubled person. I think that she will not be able to have you away for long. I think that she is happy where she is and doesn’t want anything new coming into her life.” He says with a soft voice. Everyone including yourself was staring at him with your mouths open. “I think that is a load of shit” Louis says. “How could you think that she wouldn’t be able to stand when Liam will be gone for long? Did you hear everything that she has gone through?” Harry asks. “Yes I did Harry. That is why I think that. She doesn’t want to be left alone anymore. She is afraid that something will happen. She is just afraid.” Zayn responds to Harry’s question. “So you’re saying that I should just leave and never think about her? Even if I feel like something good can come out of this? I should be able to follow what my heart is telling me and yet you stand in front of me telling me that it wouldn’t be right.” You state with hurt in your voice.
