A Day in the Park

Chapter 4

You slowly pull away with a smile on your face. You look over at Chloe and that smile grows bigger. When you look at Paul your smile fades. Seeing his face with disappointment; you start to think that this was a bad idea. You look back at Liam and see that his smile has faded as well. You didn’t know what was going on. You ran and took Chloe out of Pauls arms and just ran as fast as you could to the nearest bathroom. You could hear foot steps behind you but you didn’t dear look back. You locked Chloe and yourself in the bathroom while Liam is banging on the door begging to let him in. You broke down right there and then. You didn’t know what to do. You couldn’t look at Liam again and have him think that that was nothing. Even though your head said that you shouldn’t have let him go to your house you did it anyways. Even though your head told you not to go with him today, you did it anyways. Your head told you this would happen but your body and heart said that it was ok to let someone in. Chloe comes to you and wraps herself around you not knowing what was going on. She yelled through the door “I told you that you could kiss her if you wouldn’t make her cry again. Look what you did!” For being a 2 year old she knew her words, she knew from right and wrong, she knew something was really wrong.

You were crying for at least an hour before Liam got someone with a key to open the door. Luckily you weren’t leaning against the door. You didn’t look up to know that Liam was walking to you. Chloe gets up and stops right in-between me and Liam. “You cannot come any closer” Chloe whispers. Liam pulls Chloe into his arms and comes to you. “I am so sorry Kenzie. I didn’t want this day to be like this. I took you here to help remind you that there is something good in life. I came here to tell you that I have started to feel something for you. I came here to tell you that I have to leave for three months.” He says that in a whisper. It was hard to hear but you knew what he had said. You look up to him and say “take us home.”

On the way home no one said a word. Chloe sat close to you. She didn’t want to be seated next to Liam. She wanted to go home and go to bed. I wanted to go home and go to bed. I wish I had to work that Friday. I wish that I would have never brought Liam into our lives. When we got to my house Liam opens my door. I get out and help Chloe out. We walk to the door; I’m digging for the keys to get us away from Liam. You finally find your keys and open it up. Chloe runs straight to her room. She will probably sleep in her clothes tonight. You thought. You get in and was about to close the door when Liam steps in. You look up to him with sad eyes.

“I just want to talk to you without anyone interrupting. Please Kenzie?”

You didn’t respond. You were too tired to respond. You walked off to the living room and laid on the couch. He follows you. He sits on the chair opposite you. You watched him very closely. He put his hands on his face and rubbed it. You didn’t know what was going on in his head and you wish you had.

“When I first saw you walking in the park,” he starts “It was like I was there to meet you. I wasn’t supposed to leave the hotel, Kenzie. It felt like something told me to be there. Then I saw you and Chloe and it all made sense. When Chloe started to run to me I knew that this was to happen. It felt like I was waiting for you my whole life.”  

You just watched him talk. Your face was a blank slate. You felt like nothing was going to be ok. As much as you wanted him to leave, you didn’t. You wanted him to stay with you for the rest of your life. He had stopped talking when he noticed you weren’t listening anymore.

“Will you say something Kenzie?” Liam pleads.

“I can’t. I don’t know if I can say how I feel. Nothing makes sense anymore. I feel like everything is right when you are near me. I feel like I can’t live the rest of my life without you. I feel like I can’t trust my heart when my head tells me to run.” You have started to cry by now.

Liam comes over to you and sets you in his lap. “I always felt like something was missing. But when I met you that feeling disappeared. You and Chloe are the ones that made that feeling leave. I’m telling you this so I can know how you feel.”

There was a knock at the door before you could respond to him. Liam gets up to answer it. You hear another male voice. It’s Paul. Liam closes the door and walks back to you. He holds your hands in his. “I have to leave. Will I be able to come over tomorrow? Maybe without Paul? We need to talk some more.” You don’t say anything. After a few minutes there is another knock at the door. Liam stands up and starts to leave. You run to him spinning him around. You kiss him hard. After you pull away you say “Yes. I’ll have someone watch Chloe so we can talk.” He smiles and pecks your check and leaves.
