Justin’s POV
“Madelyn!” I yelled, pulling her body out of the tub and gently laying her on the floor. I looked for signs of life, there weren’t any; no breath sounds, no pulse. I immediately started CPR, giving her chest compressions and breaths. The tears in my eyes started to blur my vision.
“Justin?! Oh my god!” Selena screamed when she came in to find me.
“Call 9-1-1! Now!” I said in between breaths.
The ambulance was there within minutes. The medics took over. After just a few rounds of CPR, Madelyn started coughing up water, gasping for air. They didn’t waste any time as soon as she was breathing. They loaded her onto a stretcher and carried her out to the ambulance.
Nick stayed at the house with all of the kids while I rode in the ambulance with Madelyn and Selena followed us in her car. They immediately took Madelyn away, leaving Selena and I in the waiting room.
“You don’t think,” I started to say, but stopped myself.
“You think she did it on purpose?” Selena asked, tears forming in her eyes. We were both thinking it. She had been so tired and depressed lately. It made me wonder.
“She had gotten so down in the last few days, but I just thought it was her hormones.”
“Justin, I love Madelyn, you know that, but I think you need to get her help. If she tried to do it once, what’s going to stop her from doing it again?”
Selena was right. Madelyn needed help. I had thought she was getting better, but obviously she wasn’t.
“Mr. Bieber?” The doctor came towards me.
“Yes?”
“She’s not awake yet, but I think you are going to want to have your plan of action ready when she does wake up. Do you have a specific treatment center in mind?” He was thinking it too. If the doctor thought she had tried to take her own life, then I couldn’t doubt that.
Madelyn’s POV
I woke up in a completely white room. I looked around, realizing something was different about this room. And then it hit me, the padded bed rails, the bare walls, I was in a psychiatric room. More specifically, a suicide hold room. But why?
“Hey! You’re awake!” A nice nurse smiled at me. “I’ll get the doctor and your husband.”
A few seconds later, Justin and Selena came into the room. He looked as if he had been crying, a lot.
“Hey.” He smiled walking towards me, but didn’t offer any welcoming kiss or hug. “How are you feeling?” Selena just stayed back towards the corner.
“My head hurts a little.” I said, laughing a little. But Justin looked weird; like he had something he wasn’t telling me. “What?” I asked.
“Madelyn,” He started.
“Don’t call me that.” He never called me that unless we were fighting.
“Mads,” He walked closer to me and picked up my hand, “you know I love you.” He took a huge deep breath. “And I care more about you than I do myself, which is why I am doing this. You need help.”
“What?” I asked, totally confused.
“I called Passages. They have an opening right now. I think it will be good for you.” He smiled.
Passages? The rehab facility? Why in the hell was he sending me to rehab? And then it hit me all at once; everything made sense. He thought I had tried to commit suicide. And now he was going to have me committed.
“Justin, I didn’t,” I started to say, but he interrupted me.
“Madelyn, don’t try to deny it. It’s okay. We need to accept it and get you the help you need.”
“But I didn’t!” I yelled. The nurses automatically came in. I calmed myself down before they felt the need to sedate me.
“They are going to transfer you at two in the morning, that way the paparazzi won’t know where you are going. It’s best if they just think you are at home, right?”
I couldn’t even bring myself to speak to him. I was so angry.
Justin’s POV
“You have to believe me!” She screamed. I didn’t say anything. “Really? You don’t trust me?”
“No.” I said shyly under my breath.
“Well, I don’t think I can be with someone who doesn’t trust me.” The doctor had warned me she would deny it and try to do anything to get out of rehab. But I still felt myself doubting my decision. What if she wasn’t lying?
“You have me committed and we are done, Justin.”
I didn’t say anything; I just walked out of the room, before she could see my tears.
“Selena!” I yelled, kicking my tire once I was out of the hospital. “What if she wasn’t lying? What if I just ruined my marriage for nothing?!” I didn’t even bother to fight my tears.
“Justin, she’s not herself right now. She didn’t mean what she was saying. You are making the right decision. Come here.” She held her arms open. I didn’t resist. I needed a hug right now.
