I sigh as I walk up onto the stage and wave to the crowd and judges, my nerves disappearing for some strange reason as a smile replaces my nervous frown.
"Hi, what's your name?" Adam asks with a smile and I return the smile.
"My name's Y/N Cabello." I say and Mel furrows her brow.
"Like, Camila Cabello?" She asks and I chuckle.
"No. Well, kinda. My family is from Cuba, but I hold no relation to her aside from the name and the home country." I say and the judges nod.
"Well, Y/N, tell us about yourself." Adam says and I shrug.
"My name is Y/N Cabello, people actually call me Camila for some reason, it started with my family. Uh, I'm 17, I go to a private school, Harmony's Academy for Girls, and I'm from Sydney." I say and some audience members cheer.
"What are you going to sing for us today?" Mel asks.
"My Anthem. By Christina Grimmie." I say and Iggy points to the ukulele resting against my stomach.
"Are you going to play for us?" She asks and I nod as a crew member brings out a stool for me to sit on. Once he's gone, I sit on the stool and start playing and singing.
-
When I finish the song, I let the last chord ring out and look up from my ukulele and smile as the crowd cheers as well as the judges.
"Well, Y/N, I have to say, If there was a golden buzzer in front of me, I'd smack that thing so hard." Mel B says and I smile. "Meaning you've got an absolute yes from me." She says and I smile wider. "Adam."
"Holy shit, yes." He says, laughing and I chuckle a little, too, feeling tears start to well up.
After I had gotten four yeses, I ran off stage squealing and jumping around, jumping into my dad's arms when I see him and smile because him, mom, my little brother and I are all crying.
-
After a few months of being in the competition, I had gone all the way. I made it to the finale, but, I was kicked off at third place. I knew I wouldn't win, but it was nice knowing I got somewhere. As I walked off stage with Mel and Adam, they sat me down and spoke to me to try to get me to calm down, until Mel spoke up.
"Camila." Yeah, I decided to go by my nick name. Sue me.
"Yeah?" I ask, looking up at Mel.
"Someone flew here tonight, he's here and he wants to speak to you." She says and I furrow my brow.
"Who?" It couldn't be anybody from my family, they didn't have to fly anywhere.
"Well, I think I could answer that for you." I hear and look up at the source of the sound and freeze when I see the man standing in front of me. With a smile on his face.
-
"So you're serious." I say, looking at the contract sitting on the table in front of me.
"As serious as I can be." He says and I sigh, still not able to wrap my mind around the situation.
"I sign this contract and I'll be following my dreams." I say and he nods.
"You'll be signed to SyCo and Epic Records and you'll be the newest member of Fifth Harmony." Simon says and I look at the pen in my hand.
"Why me though." I say and he chuckles.
"Because you have the right personality, the right voice and you're a great person." Simon says and I shrug, signing my name on the contract after reading it carefully and look up at Simon when he says that I'm done signing. "Welcome to SyCo and Epic Records, Y/N Cabello." He says and I smile. "So I'll let you go home and pack and then I'll take you back to the US with me so you can meet your new band members?" He asks and I shrug. "Great."
