Days turn to weeks that turn into months; it was October first two months of me being at this school and getting packages. I wake and see another box I smile to myself this was the best part of my day! To: Kayla From: Writer please wear this today it works for you! I open the box and see a pretty dress with little cherries all over that from faraway look like pok-a-dots. I slip into the dress no straps I stand in front of my mirror vintage worked for me, I grab a pair of red heels to match with the cherries. Fiona comes in and looks at me.
“Oh my…” she starts.
“Does it look bad?” I ask now nerves.
“No how dare you say that! You look awesome! Curl your hair,”
“We’ll be late!” I start.
“Who cares!” she says pushing me to the bathroom. Once where done she smiles and nods we had two minutes before school started. We run down the hall heels clacking on the wood, the bell rings right as we walk in. Mr. Yale hasn’t looked up from his book to notice but everyone else notices are entrance as we sit down. I slide into my seat, everyone just looks at me. I feel my cheeks turn bright red.
“You look nice to day Miss Garson,” Mr. Yale says taking role.
“Thank you,” I say hiding my face. After a few classes in I feel a tap on my shoulder. I look up to see Chase staring at me, my cheeks turn red again.
“Hey Chase,” I smile.
“Hey Kayla,” he sputters out.
“What do you need?” I ask.
“Uh you look nice today,” he says, I nod. “So that new?”
“Someone keeps sending me stuff, and Fiona made me curl my hair,”
“It looks like what you used to do when we were ten,” he smiles. “Can I talk to you privately during lunch?”
“Yeah sure, the bell will ring in like ten seconds so you just want to walk out together?” I ask he nods. “’Kay,”
“’Kay,” he says. We walk out of class as soon as the bell rings and walk to the hall that leads to the boy’s side.
“So what’s up?” I smile. He is shaking all over. “You okay? You only do that when you’re nervous, sad, or angry,”
“You know my dog Blair, well she died yesterday, but that’s not what I wanted to talk to you about,” he says. I nod remembering the old dog who was a sweet big husky. “Any way Lexi made a rumor that she and I are dating and it’s not true. So she keeps kissing me in the halls and flirting with me calling my baby and all of these nicknames,”
“Oh,” is all I could say. He starts to shake even harder, his hands in fists at his sides. I grab his face in between my hands and massage his temples with my pointer finger. It always calmed him down when we were younger and his father died. Chase had so much hurt and anger built up he would punch stuff and sometimes hurt himself, so when day I grabbed his face and massage his temples. “Chase look at me,”
“Thanks,” he smiles. His brown eyes staring into my eyes. “How did you remember that?”
“I don’t know, it’s just it was always my first reaction when you did that so I just did it know. Like a reflex.” I shrug. He smiles and nods.
