...The interns trudged their way through the rest of the year with a heavy heart after losing a near and dear one, but on the bright side they all passed their exams and had set new goals for the future. They were now all senior doctors and were beginning to further their experiences in their chosen fields...
...It had now been a year and a half since the riots at Sanjeevani Hospital and life had finally gone back to being normal for the seven former interns; they were now well known senior doctors who kept the hospital live and kicking. As well as being busy in their own professional specialities they still found time to mess around and have good time like they did during their internship; but they missed their old friends and senior doctors; Ricky and Disha were transferred to another Sanjeevani branch along with Shubankar and Keerti.
Quite a lot had changed in the space of one and a half years on a personal scale of their lives; however, when it was time for work nothing could come in their way...
Dr. Ayesha Gupta walked into the Cardiac Ward with a bright smile as she nodded to the first patient before she made her way to the main desk; she neared it but stopped in mid step hearing the crowd of nurses complaining to the Head Nurse.
"I can't handle her any more...she's just too stubborn..."
"I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do...just try your best..." the Head Nurse replied.
The sister groaned; "We've given our best...and I can't take it now...you have to talk to the doctor..."
"You know I can't complain to her and you all better get back to work now...she will be here any minute and I..." she told them.
"Sister Pooja...is there a problem?" Aysh asked; now standing behind the crowd of nurses.
The Head Nurse turned quickly and gulped; "Dr. Gupta...umm no problem..." she looked back at the crowd; "...get back to work all of you..."
The crowd dispersed chattering loudly in annoyance while Sister Pooja twisted her fingers around each other nervously. Aysh placed her hand gently on her shoulder and motioned for her to sit down; once she was settled she handed her a glass of water with a smile and nodded her head waiting for the nurse to speak up.
"Dr. Gupta...umm...I'm really sorry...it's just the nurses...they feel..." she stammered not knowing what to say next.
Aysh sat down on the chair in front of her; "...Sister Pooja...just tell me what ever is bothering you...don't worry..."
The Head Nurse nodded and took a deep breath before speaking; "It's your Dadi...she really is having a lot of problem staying here...she just wants to go home...she's not eating properly or taking her medicines...the nurses are having a really hard time..." she noticed that she was babbling on and finally stopped; "...sorry..."
"It's okay...I will speak to her..." Aysh told her with a smile and stood up.
Aysh sighed, pushing her hands into the pockets of her lab coat she walked along the ward towards Dadi's room; she stood in the door way noticing a huge frown on her face; her smile widened and she walked further into the room.
"Oh-ho Dadi...itna gussa..."(Oh-ho Dadi...so much anger...) she said as she stood at the foot of her bed.
"Mujhe ghar jana hain..." (I want to go home...) Dadi turned her face in the opposite direction; "...maine apna beta koya hain aur tum log mujhe yahan khed kar ke rakha hain..." (I've lost my son and you have kept me here like a prisoner...) tears seeped down from the corner of her eyes.
