Chapter Eighteen

Ashton

I hate cramped spaces. So being in the middle of a crowd of kids isn't my idea of a good time. Luckily I was taller than most kids, so I could see a bit above everyone else. And that's when I spotted Terran, talking to that girl. Goodness, his face looked like a tomato! Like that's how much he was blushing.

I shoved my way through the kids until I made it to them, "Goodness dude, why on earth did you do that?" I demanded, currently ignoring the girl.

Terran shot me a really really annoyed look, "Ashton, this is Kyla."

I raised an eyebrow and looked at Kyla. Then I smiled, and held out my hand, "Sorry, I'm Ashton. Nice to meet you."

She shook my hand, looking confused, "I, um, well... thanks for bandaging my wound." She half held up her arm, which frankly, looked horrible without the bandana.

I shrugged, "No problemo. Glad to be of service."

We all relapsed into an awkward silence.

"So," Terran began, his red face sort of cooling down, "Where are you from?"

Kyla seemed to be glad to break the silence, "Solitaria." She sort of smiled at Terran, which made his face go red again, "You?"

"I live..." he trailed off for a moment, sadness coming over his face, "Well, I used to live in Solitaria too."

I saw her hand move a few inches as if to rest on his arm, but she snatched it back before Terran noticed. I smirked at her, and this time her face went beet red. She looked away quickly, and again, awkward silence prevailed. Well, it did until dozens of soldiers came through the door.
