Chapter Forty-Two
Ashton
I knew it. Called it from the beginning. Oh, those love birds.
"So," I glanced over at Terran, "How's it goin'?" I asked casually. This conversation will get on Kyla soon.
Terran looked at me like I was crazy, "What on earth are you talking about?" he asked.
"Just wondering how you're doing." I grinned at him.
He stared at me, "Seriously Ashton, what are you doing?"
"Oh, nothin'." I tried to think of a sort-of-subtle way to bring up Kyla. Which was no easy thing to do, but I'd think of something soon.
Having some inspiration on how to bring you-know-who up, I said casually, "How's your back?"
He raised an eyebrow, obviously confused and skeptical, "Um, fine."
"Nice. I was hoping I'd cleaned it well enough," I kept a casual demeanor, "Kyla wasn't getting water the quickest." Bam. Kyla successfully brought up. Not exactly in the best way, but at least now she has joined the topic. And by that I mean has become the topic.
Glancing over, I saw his face turn a bit red at her name, "Huh," he said kind of quietly. Very non-committal of him. Time to amp up the topic and the subtlety at the same time.
"By the way," I smirked inwardly at my own subtleness, "How's it going with you two?"
He turned a bit redder, "What do you mean?" Playing the innocent card. Really?
"Come on, I know you like her," I egged him on, officially dubbing myself a genius. See what I did there? If he denies it, BAM, I know the answer to Kyla's question. But if he doesn't deny it, then I also had the answer. I felt like grinning in victory, but suppressed it.
Terran also seemed to realize what I did. His face exploded like fireworks with the color red, and awkwardly mumbled something I didn't catch.
See how I'm a genius? Now he was completely bumbling around, knowing he had to answer something.
XD gotta love Ashton
