Chapter Nineteen
Terran
First of all, don't call me awkward. I'm not awkward, she was just very...nice. Fine. I'm awkward. But I couldn't help it! It's not like i've seen a lot of pretty girls around. I basically just hang out with Ashton. And yes, to me she was quite pretty. I kept feeling the urge to stare into her eyes. They were so... beautiful.
However, I was forced to stop when a lot more soldiers came into the room. Inadvertently, I flinched, remembering my second failed escape attempt. It was very foolish of me to take on the soldier, but I was desperate.
The guards flooded into the room and pushed all of us towards the center of the room, surrounding us. Then, the leader or whatever came in last. He cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled out, "Quiet down!" His voice was powerful and it did the trick. Moments later, the numerous whispers evaporated.
"I'm sure you're all wondering why we've brought you here," he paused, "Well, now I'm here to explain." Everyone leaned forward in expectation and he continued, "You might not know this, but we have conquered your city. And as a new law we are passing, we want to fix some things."
Fix some things? What was he talking about? Sounds to me like he was nuts...
The man straightened his stance as he talked. "We don't like weakness in our cities. And as a result, we have developed a way to rid ourselves of that cursed trait."
By now, murmurs were going around the room. This guy was definitely nuts.
"So, we have brought you all here to weed out the weak."
Now, kids began to panic. They pushed against each other and the soldiers held up their guns to quiet them. I felt a jab to my side and turned to see Ashton raising his eyebrows. He raised his pointer finger to his head and motioned what I had been thinking. This guy was crazy and we were in trouble.
I looked back at the man who had just finished quieting everyone back down. "We have created a special test for you all that will show us who is weak. Now, if you aren't weak, then we will let you go right back to your lives. However, if you are deemed weak, then you will be executed. That, or you won't make it through the test."
Screaming. And crying. I turned around, trying to take in the chaos. These people were sick. And we were their prisoners. Hooray.
