ONE YEAR LATER
I started to make my way down the stairs dragging all the stuff I had. Dad only sighs at me.
" Do you honestly need all this back home? half of it is junk that you don't need!"
I stared at him sarcastically. " Just like your Beatles album?"
he glances down then lifts up a box. " That is completely different."
" HA, no it's not."
we both laugh at it and continue to load until we were all set. Finally, I look at Emma who is giddy with excitement. We all jump into the car heading to the airport.
" I still can't believe you're so excited to study in Japan." I smile.
she smiles big. " Well, it's somewhere different! and besides I've always found the culture interesting."
Dad smiles. "Yeah your not wrong about that."
As we reached the airport we loaded onto the plane and dad got all the shipping figured out as we flew to Hawaii then jumped onto a private plane provided by my dads work, which flew us home.
As we stepped off the plane and slipped into the car and drove home. I was excited that I could talk to my family again...I can't wait to see what they think of me. The car reaches the bottom of the shrine. At this point, Emma is going nuts.
" I didn't realize how beautiful this shrine is!"
I smile as I glance around. " Yep, nothing really changed."
I walk around and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the bone-eaters well and glanced up to see that the tree of ages had bloomed beautiful flowers, I went to touch it when I suddenly felt warm as if then someone or something called my name.
kagome, kagome.......
"Kagome!?"
I focus on Emma's voice," Com'on! I want to eat you mom's delicious homade cooking!"
I giggle at Emma. " Yeah sure."
What on earth was that? in all that I can remember the tree has never done anything like that.
I shrug off the thought and headed back to the house, walking inside I stepped into our family room where everyone was coming at me with smiling faces and tears of joy.
Finally, I introduced everyone to Emma and they all said there hello's, then there was shojo and sota who just stared at her. I have to admit she's gorgeous but you could tell she gets a little self-conscious when people stare too long.
Shojo starts to talk. " S-So Ema? how did you meet Higurashi?"
We both smile at each other and start to laugh.
" Well, you see the thing is......I was trying to buy these cute kids some ice cream and I didn't have enough money, so I was getting yelled at by the vendor, that's when Kagome came up and started yelling at him saying his prices were too high and that he was cheating us out of our money."
Emma and I both laugh just at the memory and everyone else giggles and smiles.
mom smiles softly, " Yes, that does sound a lot like something Kagome would do."
When everyone was done my friends, Emma and I retreated outside to just sit and look at the stars and catch up.
" So what's it like in America? Was it big?"
"Were there any cute American boys there?"
I smile at there questions. " It was big and crowded just like Tokyo so I adjusted to life quickly, and some boys were cute while others were just plain rude-"
Emma cut's in. " Basically, they're players."
Everyone nods in agreement. It's silent for a moment.
" You know. It's still been a whole year and I'm still not completely healed.......I can talk but if I have breakdowns it takes me a while to get out of it....."
One of my friends leans up against me, " well I'm glad that your back. And talking. It's been a while since I've heard your voice."
I smile softly and lean on her. " Yes, it hasn't it?"
Shojo kept staring at Emma, and you could tell he was thinking about something important. Kagome smiles at Emma who blushes a little and stands up slowly.
" Um, hey shojo?"
He looks up at her surprised. " Uh, yeah?"
Emma starts to blush a little more. " Wanna walk around the shrine with me?"
He blushes a little. " Sure." quickly he stands up and puts his hands in his pockets walking away slowly, next to Emma.
Meaka starts to laugh. " They would turn into the awkwardest couple."
My other friend and I laugh. It would be true, but they both seem cute together.
Riri stares up at the sky. " So....do you still have nightmares like you did before?"
I shake my head. " My father took me to a doctor that basically gave me amnesia to forget about the bad stuff. But the only bad thing is that I can't be around a group of men.....dad and shojo, grandpa and even sota are fine but still make me nervous."
both my friends stare gloomily at the ground. Meaka touches my hand. " At least you didn't forget about us. I'm glad."
" So besides my depressed self, what's up with Muranda?"
"She's in one of the best colleges. She was sad she couldn't be here but she would call you soon."
the rest of the night we stared at the stars until it got late for everyone to stay the night and leave in the morning. I walk to sit at my window in my room wearing a bathrobe and drinking some tea while Emma and my friends slept.
" I forgot how peaceful it can be in the morning."
I walked to the bathroom and took a shower, uncovering my back. It still aches and feels like its still new. I step out of the shower wringing out my hair I stare into the mirror and sigh. If I keep stressing over this entrance exam I'm really going to regret what it does to my looks.
I quickly slip on my clothes and headed straight out the door. we were all breathing heavily.
" Good luck on your entrance exams sweetie!" mom yelled out the door.
I wave back and continue running. It's a little way but we finally made it to the train station out of breath.
Emma glances at her wristwatch. " Made.....it...with five....minutes.....to spare...."
we all sighed from exhaustion. Starting to feel normal breathing we all got ready to run into the train.
I start to laugh a little. It reminded me of the time that we had high school entrance exams and I almost didn't make it......until Inuyasha helped me.
We sprinted onto the train as it spread apart and it took off in a bolt. Finally with ten minutes to spare we made it to the exams and took them with no problems. I sighed and stretched as I walked out of the building with Emma walking with me.
I think I can adjust to moving on with life now. I'm just fine and happy.
