You frantically ran around packing up all of your things, making sure nothing was left behind when you and Newt left to Romania the following day. You still felt the immense sadness in the back of your mind but you chose to brush it aside. You didn't allow Newt to bring up anything to do with what tomorrow was, changing the subject in what you assumed was a nonchalant way, when you sensed where the conversation was going. It had been a year but you weren't ready to face the reality again.
Newt wasn't oblivious to what you were doing. He knew very well what was going on and he couldn't allow you to continue on that way. He knew you planned on the two of you leaving tomorrow and that you would apply whatever methods necessary to convince him. You obviously assumed he would go along with it, and if it were any other day he would have. He would jump at the chance to begin your journey earlier than anticipated, but not this time. It had been one year since your father passed away and he couldn't let you run away from that.
He hadn't been with you at the time you had received the news but he'd tried to console you as best as he could in the weeks following. You couldn't express how much you appreciated that. As time passed you slowly began to accept it and started moving forward, which he was glad to see. But, he'd noticed that as the days got closer and closer you began to fall back into how you were at the beginning. He understood, of course, he couldn't imagine how he'd feel in a situation like this. But, he couldn't allow you to do this to yourself so he was going to make sure that the two of you did not leave for Romania tomorrow.

You awoke bright and early, double-checking that everything was ready to go. You then made your way into the case, stacking all of your things in a corner in the shed.
"(Y/N)?" you heard Newt's muffled voice from outside the case.
You slowly made your way up and out of the case to see a concerned Newt staring down at you.
"Are you ready to go?" you asked quickly, frantically running around putting your shoes on and grabbing your jacket, shrugging it on as well. Newt cautiously followed you around as you did so.
"You've already got your coat on, and your scarf," you said, closing the case and snapping it closed and picking it up in your right hand. You didn't dare look at Newt's face. He slowly coaxed the case out of your hand, setting it down on the floor next to his feet.
"(Y/N)," Newt spoke carefully.
"W-we should really be heading out now," you replied, your voice wavering, eyes focused on the floor.
"I can't let you do that," Newt said, causing you to look up at him, wide eyed, eyes filled with tears. His eyes were welling up with tears as well.
"But I don't think I can do it," you said.
"You can," he reassured you, "you have incredible strength, something your father was very proud of you for."
At the mention of your father, a few tears managed to escape your eyes. You slowly wiped them away, your nose beginning to sniffle.
"You'll go with me?" you asked, knowing the answer already.
"Of course, love," Newt replied, grabbing your hand and disapparating.

The two of you stood in front of a gravestone, completely silent. Your hand desperately clutching Newt's as you tried to hold yourself together. You'd finished speaking to your father, even though you knew he wasn't there with you, he was there in spirit to hear what you had to say. Both you and Newt wiped away the tears that had fallen and composed yourselves.
"I-I think I'm r-ready to go now," you said.
"Just, one second," Newt replied, pulling out his wand to produce a bouquet of flowers on the ground in front of the stone.

Once you two returned to your flat, Newt left you alone, knowing you needed to process your emotions. Your father was a muggle and it was through your mother that you were exposed to this world. Unfortunately, she passed away when you were quite young, your father raising you on his own. He was overjoyed to find that you'd received your letter to Hogwarts. He'd also been fond of Newt, aware that the two of you had a very deep friendship. Newt busied himself with tending to the beasts in his case.
When he finished up and came out of his case, he saw that the door to your room was still closed and decided to make some tea for the two of you. While he was in the process of that, you came out of your room and sat down on the couch, wrapping yourself up in the blanket you'd brought with you.
"Thank you," you said, barely above a whisper, as Newt handed you your tea. He sat on the couch as well, a bit further from you. Both of you sipped your tea in silence. After you finished, the tea cups were but in the kitchen and Newt sat back down next to you.
"Would you like to talk about it?" Newt asked, green eyes searching yours, brows furrowed in concern.
"No," you replied, shaking your head. Shuffling closer to him, you looked up at him making sure it was okay. He opened up his arm for you to rest your head on his shoulder. You, however, proceeded to wrap your arms around his torso, resting your head on his chest. He wasn't expecting that but, he eased into it, knowing you needed the affection and comfort. He slowly began to stroke your hair as you hugged him tighter.
"Thank you, Newt," you whispered softly, starting to drift off to sleep. A small smile graced his lips as he began to drift off as well.
