Hey there guys!! 👋🏽 I know it's been forever since I last updated. But I had some free time so I wrote this short little thing :) I just found this dialogue prompt and went with what popped in my head. Hope you enjoy!! 💙
You'd been sitting in the same exact place spot in the Hufflepuff common room since your last class of the day. Usually the cozy atmosphere would cheer you right up no matter what was bothering you, whether it be homesickness or stress. But today nothing seemed to make you feel better.
You rubbed at your eyes, which were puffy and red from the many tears you had shed in the comfort of your bed in your dormitory. You sniffled and wiped at your nose with the inside of your sleeve. Your classmates had came to check up on you but you denied their generosity and chose to wallow. Newt had brought you an assortment of food from the kitchen, but the plate still sat where he'd left it. The food was left untouched and was considerably colder and less appealing than it had been earlier.
You sighed to yourself, curling up against the chair and closing your eyes. You wished it was as easy as closing your eyes and waking up tomorrow, with you feeling better and your problems all solved. That wasn't possible this time. There was no way you could fix not getting an E in Defence Against the Dark Arts and Potions on your N.E.W.T.s. It was time to say goodbye to your dream of becoming a Mediwitch and working at St. Mungo's. Not only had you let yourself down but you'd let your parents down as well. You couldn't help but feel like a failure.
Before you could continue wallow in your pit of despair you hear a familiar pair of footsteps stop behind your chair.
"Alright, that's enough of that," Newt spoke.
"Just let me be, Newt," you replied, squinting your eyes tighter and burying your face in the blanket you had wrapped around you.
"Come on (Y/N)," Newt pleaded, "You've been sitting here all day."
"And I would like to continue sitting here for the rest of eternity if possible," you replied, "at least then I wouldn't have to worry about my future."
"You know I can't let you keep wallowing like this, right?" Newt moved to stand in front of your chair.
You opened your eyes slowly, greeted by the sight of Newt's freckled face, mop of curly hair, and kind eyes. Eyes which instantly filled with compassion as they met yours.
You sighed, knowing Newt wasn't going to let you continue your antics. You slowly sat upright, planted your feet back into your shoes, and stood up, letting the blanket fall off your shoulders and onto the chair.
"Fine, I'm up," you crossed your arms and looked at Newt. He was taller than you but you didn't have to look up too much.
"Come along," Newt said as he began to make his way to the entrance to the common room.
"What?" Your arms had dropped to the side and a look of confusion was etched across your face.
"(Y/N)..." Newt replied, "Don't pretend like you didn't hear me properly, please."
"All you wanted from me was for me to get up out of the chair," you squinted your eyes at him, "Nothing about going outside was mentioned at all."
Slumping his shoulders and sighing Newt pleaded again, "It won't be l-long... I promise."
You continued to stare at him, not budging. He nervously ran his fingers through his hair.
"We already talked earlier," was all you said, crossing your arms again.
"We don't have to talk about anything, at all!" Newt replied quickly, raising his hands in front of himself.
You contemplated your decision in your head, and slowly made your way towards Newt.
"Fine," you replied.
"Great!" Newt smiled at you and you couldn't help but smile back, a bit of your sadness slowly forgotten as feelings of affection and happiness filled you.
**
You found yourself standing along the railing of the astronomy tower. Newt standing considerably close to you, not that you minded. It was pretty chilly up here after all. You also didn't mind the fact that he'd taken your hand in his as you'd made your way through the corridors to get here. His legs were longer than yours so he would be walking much faster, how else would you have kept up? And the fact that the two of you had been standing up here for a significant amount of time and your hands were still intertwined didn't bother you either.
You could feel your feelings of sadness and despair fading little by little. That wasn't to say you'd completely forgotten your worries, but the burden on your shoulders felt much lighter than before. Just standing here, in silence, gazing at the starry night sky with Newt put things into a different perspective.
Newt glanced at you from the corner of his eye, his hand that was intertwined with yours beginning to warm up more than he'd like. The night air cool against his warm, slightly flushed cheeks. He'd hoped this would make you feel better, and judging from the way you were looking out at the stars, it had.
Newt softly cleared his throat before speaking, "Just so you know... I believe in you."
You looked over at him, briefly meeting his gaze before looking back out at the sky, "I know."
He could see the edge of your smile as you continued, "Thank you Newt, for this, and for believing in me."
"O-of course," Newt smiled and looked back out at the night sky as well.
"Besides, who else is going to patch you up after your crazy adventures," you glanced at him, admiring his freckles.
In this moment you were okay. You were still disappointed in yourself, but you weren't giving up on your dream. Yes, it would be more difficult and time consuming to reach your goal but that didn't mean it wasn't possible. With Newt by your side you were sure that no matter what happened in the end, no matter what path you ended up on, everything would be okay.
