You heaved a sigh of relief as you finally had a moment to yourself. You quickly grabbed a flute of champagne off the tray that floated by you before it moved away. Looking out over the crowd you took a small sip while you slowly massaged the back of your neck with your other hand.
You loved your job as an auror, well almost auror to be specific. You'd finally reached the third and final year of the training program and that would be over soon enough. But, having to attend all of the networking events that the Ministry of Magic hosted was not something you enjoyed. Of course, it was a great privilege to be in a position where you had the opportunity to attend these events and most of the time you enjoyed yourself. But, today was not one of those days. Your feet ached, your back hurt, and you just wanted to go back to your flat and sleep.
Most days you had to endure the company of your fellow auror in training, and that was difficult to say the least with everyone fawning over him. You scoffed to yourself, taking another sip of your drink. To his credit he was an exceptional student and you were sure he'd be one of the greatest aurors the Ministry had seen in years. But they all just fawned over him and it infuriated you because they didn't have to deal with him and the stupid smug smile he wore. On his stupid face. His stupidly extremely attractive face.
"No," you shook your head, taking a huge gulp of your drink, "You don't like him. You don't think he's attractive. Remember, he's infuriating."
But, that didn't work. More memories and rushes of emotions flashed across your mind as you thought of him. Your mind just refused to cooperate with you as of late. In the beginning it had been easy to dislike him, he was good at everything and he was well liked for good reason. But, you always felt an undertone of something in your interactions with him as time passed. You could never put your finger on what it was and just brushed it aside, replacing the curiosity with aloofness and disdain. That, however, was no longer as easy as it used to be.
You weren't sure when these feelings developed or whether they were always just bubbling beneath the surface, but it was getting harder to keep him off of your mind. He quickly picked up on your behavior and knew just how to push your buttons. It was getting more difficult to just bury these emotions, it seemed that the more you fought against them the stronger they got. And having feelings for someone you worked closely with never ends well.
You quickly finished up the rest of your drink, at least you hadn't seen him at all tonight. Maybe you could get through the rest of this gala without having to interact with him and have the weekend to recuperate. You set your empty glass on another tray as it floated by.
Closing your eyes you took a deep breath and exhaled. You quietly whispered to yourself.
"You can do th—"
"(Y/N)."
You'd spoken too soon. You slowly turned around coming face to face with the subject of your conflicting emotions.
"Theseus," you replied crossing your arms. You subtly looked him over and cursed to yourself, of course he looked gorgeous.
"Oh come now," Theseus placed his hands in his pockets as he stepped closer to you, a playful smile on his face, "You don't have to say my name like that."
